Perfect for Back-to-School or year-round, this interactive author visit develops social-emotional skills and cultural awareness.

2) IT’S CHINESE NEW YEAR, CURIOUS GEORGE - Book Reading & Chinese Culture Presentation (Pre-K to 6):
This engaging and interactive program is great for Curious George fans, whether celebrating Chinese New Year or learning about its traditions for the first time.

3) HOW TO WRITE A CHILDREN’S BOOK - Great for Read-a-Thons, PARP, Career Day, and supporting Literacy Skills (Pre-K to Teens):
In this presentation, adjusted for grade levels, students will learn how to write a children's book, what editors are looking for, and the different routes for publishing a book. The author uses her books as examples for storytelling and illustration development.

New on the Bicultural Mama Blog! "Ama’s Purse Book Review – A Celebration of Grandmothers and Heritage," written by Charlotte Cheng and illustrated by Xindi Yan.

Many cultures have different names for grandmothers. For Chinese American Author Charlotte Cheng, her grandmother was Ama. In the picture book AMA’S PURSE, published by Rocky Pond Books, the author draws on memories of her own grandmothers to create this story. It’s a wonderful celebration of grandmothers and heritage. Beautiful, pastel illustrations by Xindi Yan bring the story to life.

Happy Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

AANHPI Month is celebrated every May in the United States. It began as a week-long observance in 1977 and was expanded to a month in 1992.

It honors the cultures, histories and contributions of people with roots in Asia, Native Hawaiian communities and the Pacific Islands.

If you have books that represent countries, cultures, or regions not listed, drop the titles in the comments!

FUN FACT I JUST LEARNED:
Māori are the Indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand and Polynesia is part of the broader Pacific Islander grouping. So culturally and geographically, Māori fall under the Pacific Islander part of AANHPI.
