We began with D’Angelo’s Voodoo, then reshuffled the entire room and everyone in it for Session Two, Cleo Sol’s Rose in the Dark.

That evening was full of firsts.
First time hosting.
First time speaking to a room full of people about an album we truly loved.
First time trusting our curation in front of a room.
First time feeling the nerves that come with putting something you truly believe in out into the world.

The people who showed up that day didn’t just attend a session. Many of them became friends, and they’re still part of our lives and this space today. @boobyk joined us as an attendee in 2022. This time, he’s sitting beside us as a co-host.

That evening allowed us to exist three-dimensionally as a record store. It gave us confidence in our taste, and more importantly, the courage to stay true to our vision. We may take some of this for granted now, but back then, every small decision felt huge.

The very first event we ever hosted was a Voodoo listening session. Back when we were a baby record shop, just getting our feet wet, trying to find our place in the world.

That album stayed with us.
It was one of the reasons we started this shop.
To sell music like this.
To connect with people who listen to music like this.
To build something rooted in feeling.

When we heard that D’Angelo passed, it hurt in a way we didn’t expect. It felt like losing a close friend. Like someone who had quietly shaped our inner world was suddenly gone.

So it feels right that the last session of 2025 carries his name. A moment to come together and celebrate his legacy.

To sit with Voodoo, his unbelievable 2000 album, one more time.

It’s Christmas.
D’Angelo’s musical language was born in gospel. Ending the year this way feels fitting.
