I’m still in shock from this. Today @mayorofla handed down to myself and my business @brooklynprojects a very special award that is given to people and businesses that directly impact the community and the city of Los Angeles.

As you all know .. I’ve been a fixture on Melrose Ave for almost 30 years … I helped curate the skateboard culture in hollywood.. long before Fairfax ever happened.. we were the nucleus .
-
Never got my flowers … until today. This means more to me than any collab I have ever done.
-
A Certificate Of Recognition .. from the city of LA and the state of California that recognize all the work I’ve put into the community.. not only the neighborhood and Melrose corridor but the skateboard community .
-
The main reason we have @brooklynprojects is to inspire the new generation and continue growing and teaching and supporting skateboarding in Los Angeles.
-
It’s a thankless job but I wouldn’t give it up for anything .. I live for this.

Finally got a battery for my Sony Hi8 … first thing once I hit play was this :
Justin Pearce and Keenan Milton in the back of my first LA store : Brooklyn House West .. which is now the flagship store for Awful Lot Of Cough Syrup.

This was 1997 from the time stamp.

So many good times .. this was the first year I opened the shop and started planting seeds to grow the Hollywood skate scene. Up until we opened on Melrose in 1997… there was no skate shop in Los Angeles … Rene’s which was down the block from the OG Brooklyn House West on Melrose closed in 1995 or so…
-
Crazy to see this … been on Melrose since 1997 until now. 29 years. Through fires, floods,losing leases on properties … homelessness … still here.
-
Miss these times and my friends that aren’t here anymore … but I’m grateful to still be here holding down the skate scene and helping plant the seeds of Los Angeles skateboarding when no one else was.
