I have always read. My family wasn't trying to have me watch much too much television. Access to the internet was limited until I was around 12, but I always had unlimited access to books.

Books comforted me when I was bored, when I was lonely, when I was sad. They brought me joy.

I'm also glad that my family made sure that the books that were available in my house had people that looked like me on the covers and in the pages. Being a writer is the one dream I ever held in my heart.

The first queer books I read didn't have any black people in them. I think the first time I even read a book with black queer people in it was The Color Purple (which I read when I was 19).

When I was given this opportunity,I wanted to make sure the next generation of children who have a similar experience to me saw themselves on a page.

Reading comprehension has gone down again, screen time is at an all time high and attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. It’s time to pick up a book and open the schools. Last time we brought you to Kanto, this time we are bringing you back to class. Welcome to the Back to School Kiki.

Relatively early in a Pokemon trainer’s journey, before even the first gym, there are Trainers’ schools. These schools teach the fundamentals: status conditions, battle strategy, training techniques and how to properly raise your Pokemon. Tonight you can bring it as the trainer or the Partner Pokemon.

Kommt vorbei und taucht gemeinsam mit Candy und uns tiefer in Ballroom Geschichte ein. Bringt gerne alle Eure Fragen mit!

Die Grundlagen haben wir bereits gemeinsam kennengelernt. Dieser Workshop bietet Raum für einen tieferen Einblick in bestimmte Bereiche, wie bspw. Kategorien, Epochen etc. Es wird wieder ein Vortrags-Format sein mit Zeit sich untereinander und mit Candy auszutauschen :)

Candy Old Navy ist seit 2024 German Mother des Kiki House of Old Navy, seit längerem im Community-Building tätig und bemüht Ballroom Wissen zu teilen bspw. in den regelmäßigen Candy Lounge Sessions in Berlin.

Wir laden erneut herzlich alle trans* & queeren BIPoC ein, Allys sind ebenfalls willkommen. Wir freuen uns auf neue und bekannte Gesichter♟️💓
