What began as a grassroots movement to challenge visibility has evolved into a nationally recognized organization building sustainable pathways for storytellers, executives, and creatives across the industry.

This 35th anniversary is more than a celebration—it is a testament to the power of sustained ecosystem-building. As the industry faces rapid transformation, CAPE remains committed to expanding opportunity, strengthening leadership tracks, and building an equitable future where authentic API stories are not the exception, but the norm.

@lizziesarge’s directorial feature film @take_me_home_film is finally heading to theaters this fall! The film was acquired by @willa.willa.willa for U.S. distribution and will team up with @our friends at @caringacrossgen for an impact campaign.

Based on the short film funded by CAPE and Janet Yang Productions’ grant, the feature film version follows Anna (@annasargentofficial) who cares for her aging parents in a fragile balance of meeting one another’s needs. When a Florida heat wave shatters their family and Anna’s routine, her future is uncertain until she creates a world where she can thrive. The film debuted at @sundanceorg in 2026 and won the prestigious Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for Sargent as well as the @amazonmgmstudios Producers Award to @apoorvagc.

The film made an international splash at @berlinale and will also appear at @tribeca in June 2026.

SACCHARINE is officially in movie theaters. I 💜movie theaters. This is tough subject matter, but @natalieejames is a visionary, and I am so grateful she asked me to be her Hana. “There’s a crack, there’s a crack in everything - That’s how the light gets in.”

Congrats to Nadine Jin (@misongjinnn), whose short film “Silent Voices”, won second place at La Cinef at the @festivaldecannes! 😱 The short film was 1 of 14 live-action short films in the program selected from a pool of 2750 submissions sent by film schools all over the world.

Nadine is a film candidate of Columbia University’s MFA program. “Silent Voices” is set in New York and centers on a Korean immigrant family of four who lead separate lives, each facing moments of defeat in their daily existence. As they navigate complexities of survival and disconnection, they each hide their wounds from one another. The film was supported by the Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge grant in Year 4.
