@catskillcenter Executive Director Jeff Senterman sat down with @kaatscast’s Brett Barry for @radiocatskill to discuss the @nysdec’s final recommendations report for the Kaaterskill Clove Visitor Use Management (VUM) project.
We’re encouraged to see NYSDEC follow the recommendations of the Catskill Strategic Advisory Group in developing this report which marks an important step in the ongoing conversation around the future of Kaaterskill Clove and visitor use in the Catskills. While supportive of the VUM framework, we believe there are many improvements that can be made before considering limiting public access via a permit or timed entry system.
NYSDEC is accepting public feedback on the report through June 1, 2026 at ForestPreserve@dec.ny.gov.

Catskill Park Trail Conditions for the weekend of May 8, 9, and 10.
Spring is keeping things dynamic in the Catskills this weekend. Friday brings a mix of clouds with showers possible by evening, while Saturday looks cool, cloudy, and wet. By Sunday, skies start partly cloudy with a warm-up into the 70s, though a few showers may return later in the day. As temperatures rise and rain moves through, amphibians like the red eft become more active on trails. Watch where you step, especially in damp, shaded areas, and help protect these small but important forest residents by giving them space.
This week’s trail conditions are sponsored by @kaatscast
🌥️ Friday: Partly cloudy skies during the day and chance of showers in the evening. High near 58°F, low 44°F.
🌧️ Saturday: Cloudy with showers. High near 58°F, low 48°F.
⛅️ Sunday: Partly skies early with a few showers later in the day. High 70°F, low 49°F.

As Amphibian Week comes to a close, it’s worth paying attention to the sounds rising from wetlands and forest edges across the Catskills.
Amphibians are more than seasonal background noise, they are indicators of how well these landscapes are functioning.
Amphibians depend on clean water, intact forests, connected wetlands, and healthy stream systems to survive. When amphibians are thriving, it’s often a sign that the broader ecosystem is too.
In the Catskills, protecting forests, wetlands, and headwater streams does more than support frogs and salamanders. It helps sustain the interconnected systems that both wildlife and people rely on.

A tiny forest has just arrived!
Over 100 native trees from @catskillnativenursery have been delivered at the @catskills.visitor.center.
Over the next two months, @catskillcenter volunteers and @catskill.prism staff will plant these trees in areas along the Ashokan Rail Trail that have already been managed to reduce invasive species and improve native habitat. Together, these plantings will help strengthen biodiversity, improve forest resilience, and support healthier natural systems along the Ashokan Reservoir.

Your voice can help keep the Catskills a priority!
As the State budget moves into final negotiations, there is still time to re-engage with your Senators and Assemblymembers and urge them to support these Catskill priorities.
A quick call or email can help keep investments strong in the final budget.
Ask them to support:
→ $12 million for Adirondack and Catskill Wilderness Protection and Visitor Safety
→ $250,000 for the Catskills Visitor Center
→ $200,000 for the Catskill Science Collaborative
Investing in these priorities helps protect the region’s forests and waterways, support local communities, and ensures safe, sustainable access to the Catskills.
It only takes a minute, and it makes a real difference.

Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
