Ffern - Winter 26
Cinematographer Natasha Duursma first told me about the job with a simple text: “I’ve got the perfect job for you”. And she was absolutely right. Roaming the Scottish highlands for a week, on and off boats, shooting on islands, up hills and in remote bothys — it was a great job, only made possible by hard work and a fantastic team.
During the recces, it became clear that we needed to be lightweight, efficient, and ready for any weather to make this shoot work. The most challenging locations being on a lighthouse, where equipment would literally be ferried over, and in a remote bothy with no power, which was a 45min 4x4 ride into the glen.
We were shooting a mix of 50D, 250D, and 500T so we needed punch and control. We opted for a selection of Nanlux and Creamsource units, with a few small tungsten units up our sleeve. We also had a towable generator and wattman for power, and as many tarpaulins, ropes, sandbags, and stage weights we could get our hands on.
Creatively, we wanted to capture the beautiful quality of light in Skye while also championing the lighthouse. We were led by the wonderful Nora
Fingscheidt and 1st AD Rose Lucas.
This creative vision was made possible by the hard work of my top class electricians, Dan Burns and Marian Cojocaru, and SHL who provided the gear and went the extra mile.
Also big up Stuart who provided a deeply Scottish impromptu whisky-tasting in the back of his car while we were stuck for hours on a closed road.

Cinematographer Natasha Duursma first told me about the job with a simple text: “I’ve got the perfect job for you”. And she was absolutely right. Roaming the Scottish highlands for a week, on and off boats, shooting on islands, up hills and in remote bothys — it was a great job, only made possible by hard work and a fantastic team.
During the recces, it became clear that we needed to be lightweight, efficient, and ready for any weather to make this shoot work. The most challenging locations being on a lighthouse, where equipment would literally be ferried over, and in a remote bothy with no power, which was a 45min 4x4 ride into the glen.
We were shooting a mix of 50D, 250D, and 500T so we needed punch and control. We opted for a selection of Nanlux and Creamsource units, with a few small tungsten units up our sleeve. We also had a towable generator and wattman for power, and as many tarpaulins, ropes, sandbags, and stage weights we could get our hands on.
Creatively, we wanted to capture the beautiful quality of light in Skye while also championing the lighthouse. We were led by the wonderful Nora
Fingscheidt and 1st AD Rose Lucas.

Love Holidays ‘The Power of Love’
A fun project last year mixing the real and virtual world. Working with the wonderful @hot.icarus, @bencotgrove and VP team @marsvolume, we were able to really make use of the VP screens abilities.
We married together screen transitions, lighting cues, and good old fashioned spinning heads all to create the transitions between scenes.
We ran the iPad app in tandem with Unreal, allowing me to create and control light cards of any shape, size or colour — all of which we were able to use to accentuate our real world lighting
