A Woman is a School is the first memoir and cultural anthropological book by Slow Factory founder, Céline Semaan. As a war-survivor and child refugee sharing endangered and discredited ancestral knowledge of the Global South, particularly tales from Lebanon from 1948 to 2023—the book follows the tradition of the hakawati, the storytellers of the Levant, holding Indigenous knowledge and wisdom, Céline Semaan, a hakawati herself, documents what she has witnessed throughout her life and the lives of her family members, sharing her upbringing and cultures of resistance.

Deeply grateful to @msallisonglenn for her vision overall in creating and imagining across nations. The title of the Biennale: Things Fall Apart is a reflection of the world we live in, it is also inspired by Pema Chodron’s groundbreaking book “When Things Fall Apart”.
In great moments of transformation, collapse and chaos, artists lead the way for society to remember and to repair. I’m so honored to pour my heart into this, in a time where my people are under attack, have been in a cycle of survival, to create truly heals.

We low key launched a TV Channel on @everything_political 👀 Because media justice and owning our own narratives is key in countering dehumanization and racism that has led to an open genocide against Palestinians and Lebanese, Sudan, Congo, Iran and 800 places on the planet where the US Military has military bases to oppress and extract.

Everyday is Earth Day 🌍 a day that began as a revolt and later embraced the Indigenous Land Back movement and with @theslowfactory ‘s contribution bridge the gap between climate and human rights issues. I know this seems really obvious but trust me when I say it took **at least** a decade of narrative change to get here. #earthday #collectiveliberation
And after the genocide in Gaza began, and layered expanded to Lebanon, Slow Factory faced financial sanctions forcing us to reduce our team and reroute our efforts. A school of thoughts, a blueprint and a reference in the space, Slow Factory remains a cultural beacon playing with art, design for the purpose of collective liberation.
