Moving on to Ep 204, directed by the uber-talented @herronthatkate. The iconic guitar scene was our first shooting day on this episode, and it was such a magical way to start the block. @donjmacaulay_design and his team (including my old @americanfilminstitute buddy @harryurkiw) designed this beautiful, 2-story set, such that we could shoot all the ups and downs for real. I knew I wanted direct sunlight to come streaming through that hole in the wall, and there is no substitute for a good, old fashioned T20. We kept our coverage quite simple in order to pay homage to the game, and I shot the scene on uncoated Cooke S4s to give it a slightly more dreamy, romantic quality. The scene that precedes this one, we shot on location in Nanaimo. I was blown away by the access our Locations department got us here, and the incredible dressing that Greens and Set Dec was able to do. As good as our access was, the only way to really have sun control here was Cloud Balloons. We timed the wides to be at the beginning and the end of the day, and utilized the Clouds when the sun was bang over head… as you do!
