Last night’s Afrofuturist Salon with Cincinnati Opera was such a vibe. ✨

As part of the community engagement leading up to the world premiere of Lalovavi, the evening beautifully fused hair as art, fashion, music, storytelling, and Black cultural expression into one immersive experience. From the hair showcase and networking to the dynamic panel conversation, and DJ battle w/ DJ Apryl Reign & Rah D using original music from Lalovavi, every moment felt intentional, elevated, and deeply rooted in the brilliance of Black creativity.

One of the most powerful parts of the evening was hearing the conversation around Black hair — not simply as beauty or style, but as identity, language, resistance, artistry, legacy, and futuristic imagination. The insights shared by librettist Tifara Brown, hair stylist Shabrina Cromwell, wig designer Tiara Jones, and scholar Cassandra Jones gave such rich perspective on how hair helps shape the visual and emotional world of Lalovavi and the storytelling unfolding on stage.

NCBAE was honored to be in the room witnessing this beautiful collision of Black futurism, opera, hair & culture, and community. If last night was any indication, Lalovavi is going to be an extraordinary experience. 🚀🖤✨
