Meditation doesn't have to be something that you sit down to learn. It can be learned moment to moment using the act of creating as a vehicle to get there. I'm not sure if any of my students ever achieved sumati but I do know that they found a safe place to quiet the mind.I guess you never really know you've made it there until the moment has passed. Just like now as I sit here writing this. My dream to bring Visionary Art to populations who were under-served was a great desire of my heart and for the last two years I've been doing it....and just like that my time is done.

This piece that my students (Middleschoolers attending an alternative school here in Indianapolis) made was a concept that they came up with and painted collaborativly. I am so proud of my young Visionaries. Without community we are lost souls. One side of the heart is blooming and thriving with the community center nestled inside-- the flowers each designed by individual students. The other side of the heart is dying. There's toxicity spewing from an old factory. Images of guns and drugs float through the toxic cloud which is killing what was once thriving there. Names of police brutality victims are commemorated on tombstones.

I learned so much from this experience and hold so much love in my heart for each student who I got to work with. You taught me patience and how to meet you where you are-- leaving my own selfish agenda behind.You taught me how to be present more so than I ever have been before. I am a better artist and human because of you. ❤️

I spoke in front of the Mayor today about being a Visionary Artist and about using the act of creatingas a practice to develop better coping skills aka mindfulness.I am so very blessed to be a partner with the Edna Martin Christian Foundation and the Elevation Grant which is centered around crime prevention. I had tears when I heardMayor Hogsett say that gun violence is down 17 percent since this program rolled out. This is truly something that I can feel good about.

What is it to truly be in community? To me it means that everyone is included and everyone brings their own unique gifts to the table. We can't have one without the other. We each play a special part.

Not my favorite painting I've ever done but it gets the point across. I might take this concept and run with it a little further in my next piece.

What does being in community look like to you?

To be trusted is a gift.

Grateful to all those who trusted me last week to take them on a Visioning journey. There werea few close friends as well as some folks that I had never met who have now become my friends. 🥰

I've been clamoring all over the place trying to think of what to say and all that can come out is thank you. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for being open. Thank you for creating.

If you missed this one mark your calendars!! The next is already in the books for the weekend of October 10th. This will be on the Libra New Moon and a week before my birthday. There's nothing I'd love more than to have you there with me.

And yes, my crown is back. Through all of the falling towers. It was always there. I just needed to put it back on. 🙏👑

Years ago a friend who will always be dear to me recommended this book. I was going through a lot and had questions about my life and the direction that it was taking. I was at the beginning of what I now know to be my life as a Visionary Artist. This book is a huge source of comfort to me. Reading it always feels like a warm hug. As I finalize preparations for my retreat I am realizing that this book shaped the container for the experience thatI aim to share. My first design for @bloomingtontrashion was a hit! "This one's for the birds" was created using old bird netting from my garden and hundreds of feathers that I hand cut from Trader Joe's paper bags. A nod to an empty nest, and the endless task that comes with motherhood- keeping children fed and nourished. Cheers to all the warrior mamas out there and another thank you to my dear friend @helsinki712 for getting me into this incredibly fun creative practice. 💪🕊️🪹

I went to sleep last night with a heart full of love and hands covered in paint. The colors of which reflecting each unique individual who showed up to learn with me at last night's Reiki and Paint workshop. The gratitude I feel for the trust that is lent to me is indescribable. Together we created a safe, nourishing container where everyone had a chance to rest, be seen and feel loved. Creating peace within yourself can and will create peace in the world. We need to be together in community to do this.
