COLLECTIVE collaborated with film maker Ignacio Minguez @lelocataire on the short film “HONG KONG STEPS”, offering a playful point of view on our latest public space design in Hong Kong at 83 King Lam Street. @collective_studio
This film is part of the Hong Kong Exhibition at the 19th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition. COLLECTIVE was invited as one of the architectural practices in Hong Kong, to share a flim narrative focusing on one aspect of Hong Kong’s built environment- having engaged in the design of various larger scale public spaces in Hong Kong, we decided to have some fun with the 3 dimensional public garden we completed at 83 King Lam Street in Hong Kong. @venice.archi.biennale.hk
The film focuses on public architecture, overlapping what our design team imagined we could do on the public steps and what the Hong Kong Public actually did throughout the course of a week.
Videographer/ Sound/ Film Editor: Ignacio Minguez @lelocataire

“The three principals of COLLECTIVE, a Hong Kong–based firm with global reach, first met at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.” @harvardgsd
A Chinese, an American and a Spanish met at Harvard GSD, each accumulated experiences internationally. Met again in Hong Kong and now co-creating projects cross countries together with the team at COLLECTIVE composed of 8 nationalities.

Winner of AIA Hong Kong 2025 Honor Award (Architecture) in the Open International category and Sustainability Award - "Cascading Pixelated Plaza Turns Lai Chi Kok Podium Into Public Oasis" @aiahkchapter
The jury recognized this integration as ‘a new trend in Hong Kong…where people are treating the ground level and bottom parts of towers as public open space for the community.’ COLLECTIVE Studio’s design demonstrates how privately owned commercial developments can deliver genuine community infrastructure through thoughtful programming and parametric precision.
The design team, led by COLLECTIVE for podium architecture, landscape, interiors, and auditoriums, worked with Rocco Design Architects as lead architect for the twin towers. As one juror observed, the “lead architect welcomed a young architecture firm to design the public space—demonstrating professional generosity” in a cross-generational collaboration, put together by the client, between a long-established Hong Kong firm and a 10-year-old international studio based in Hong Kong.

83 King Lam Street won the HKIA Award of Hong kong Office Building category 2025.
A very significant recognition for COLLECTIVE, who is the Design Architect for the Architecture and Interiors of the podium, including the public steps, landscape, auditorium, co-working space, lobby and signages. COLLECTIVE is also responsible for the interiors of the twin towers. COLLECTIVE partnered with Rocco Design Architects, who is the Design Architect of the twin towers and the Executive Architect of the project.
We are very thankful for New World Group to have placed COLLECTIVE, a team of rising and creative architects together with Hong Kong's most celebrated and experienced architects to form a design partnership 7 years ago. We would also like to thank the team at COLLECTIVE, to all who have contributed through these years.
83 King Lam Street consists of a major podium for a set of new commercial office twin towers situated in the old industrial heartland of Cheung Sha Wan, redefining the new “Privately-Owned-Public Spaces” in Hong Kong.
A PIXELATED LANDSCAPE
Forming the centerpiece of the podium is a cascading landscape of steps – the ‘feature steps’ – which rhythmically winds its way up and down, left and right, connecting each level of the separated podium. Its parametric surface is expressed as a series of pixelated steps with varying heights, thereby creating a landscape of stairs, seats, and planters. At the top of the podium, the pixelated steps conglomerate and blend into the site’s rising green back-drop. This fabricated landscape is meant to be an intentional extension of the natural green mountainside into the city’s urban fabric and effectively linking the base of the two towers.
AUDITORIUM
Inserted below the Feature Steps are two connected interior auditorium spaces – the upper and lower auditorium. The two spaces may be used as a single event space or partitioned to be used separately.

83 King Lam Street | HKIA Award of Hong Kong - Office Building
The development situates in an urban context with a hustle and bustle Ching Cheng Road at the north which segregates the site from the mountain the design targets to reconnect nature with the city, through creating an urban oasis with a distinct architectural setting Two towers of same height but different footprints are positioned at an angle to form a communal space in between by using cantilever form, the towers not only gain more office space at high levels but also free up the ground floor for different kinds of activities and functions, also it generates an interesting architectural dialogue between two towers the courtyard formed by two towers is three dimensionally expanded as a 2 storey stepping form podium with F&B functions and podium garden for the enjoyment of the public the proposed development will ultimately generate a sustainable, livable and vibrant office and commercial precinct which becomes a new district focus.

Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
