AIRELOOM

This commercial was a moving catalog of California-inspired luxury mattresses, shot on location in a real home over two days where we had to make two rooms feel like four distinct, dynamic spaces. The schedule was intense, and a major rainstorm hit on day one. Rather than fight it, I leaned in, and that ended up being one of my favorite looks in the spot.

We were lighting multiple setups simultaneously, including one that transitioned dynamically from evening to dusk to night within the spot itselfwhich meant I was adjusting exposure constantly throughout. The ALEXA 35 gave me the confidence to chase that in real time, knowing the image would hold no matter where the light landed.

Shooting Aireloom’s 2025 collection was an extremely rewarding experience, full of great memories, tons of rain, and tight schedules. The video portion of the shoot was shot entirely on Location in two days where we had to double up two rooms and make them look like four individual unique spaces.

@paulinalagudiulrich did an incredible job leading a rather large crew on both photo and video and I’m extremely proud of the result. On the photo side, Paulina and our amazing photographer @fiorella_occhipinti had a very tall order with a lot of deliverables, but Fio knocked it out of the park. More to come on those with @saylittle_ .

This was shot on my @arri Alexa 35 paired with @7isatribe Blackwings T-Tunes, Xflares, and @angenieuxlenses optimo zooms provided by @cslarentals . The @arri Alexa 35’s sensor was a crucial component in this production. I knew that I was going to be chasing natural light during dusk on this shoot, so I chose the Alexa 35. I was able to rely on the incredible dynamic range and color science of the Alexa system to achieve the creative. We also had to move quickly on this while performing very dynamic shots - this is where the Trinity 2 system shined.

I started collecting lenses when I was 13. Back then it was wide angles taped to my camcorder and fisheyes for skate videos. By 26, I started studying glass seriously and paying attention to the subtleties that make each lens unique. At 28, I got my first set of rehoused Cooke Panchros. Since then, I’ve collected over 150 lenses. Now that I’m 40, I’ve decided to open up the collection and share it through @rawelementslensco.

I’m not stepping away from filmmaking. This collection has grown with me over my entire career, and this is simply its next chapter. A place for the lenses to live, evolve, and inspire new work.

I’m starting with the Todd AO 45-90 Anamorphic Zoom. Which I call the Tangie AO. It’s a Todd AO 2x anamorphic paired with an Angenieux zoom. The look is soft and dreamy with a very specific sweet spot. When you find it, the image just hits. This lens rewards patience, intention, and time spent learning how it wants to be used.
