What happens when the piano stops performing at the world, and begins listening with it?

Sonic Earth Live grew from an improvised dialogue with the planet, shaped by rare field recordings from Martyn Stewart OBE (The Listening Planet) and a special collaboration on Response (closing track) with Philip Selway (Radiohead).

This is not just music, but a listening ceremony, a chance to slow down, hear the memory of ecosystems, and reconnect with something greater than ourselves.

Sound Brings Coherence

We’re finally remembering what ancient cultures never forgot: healing isn’t silent.

From the low hum of bees to the rhythm of our own heartbeat, life itself is an orchestra of vibration. Every tissue, every organ, every cell has a frequency and when those frequencies fall out of tune, so do we.

Modern research is catching up. Studies show that synchronized light and sound at 40 Hz can reduce neuroinflammation, promote myelination, and preserve neural function in neurodegenerative models. Low-frequency vibration supports pain modulation and vagal tone. Music tuned to 432 Hz the so-called Verdi pitch, lowers heart and breathing rates more than the standard 440 Hz.

Even nature hums at healing frequencies. The Schumann resonance the Earth’s heartbeat oscillates around 7.83 Hz, the same frequency as our alpha brainwaves in calm focus. Bees vibrate around 190 Hz, both pollinating plants and mirroring a human tissue resonance range. Our biology evolved in conversation with these signals; we’ve just forgotten how to listen.

That’s why projects like Sonic Apothecary 2.0, led by the brilliant composer and pianist Rosey Chan @dangerousmoonlight matter. Her work sits where art, neuroscience, and quantum acoustics meet — showing how harmonic structures and tone can gently re-tune the nervous system.

This isn’t abstract or esoteric. It’s biological coherence through sound, vibration that restores order across neural, hormonal, and mitochondrial systems.

Because sound isn’t just heard; it’s felt.
It moves fascia, shifts breath, entrains the heart.
It reminds us that art and biology have never been separate.

Every sound in Rainforest began as a living moment ~ recordings captured by Martyn Stewart OBE in the rainforests of Costa Rica, part of his life’s archive for The Listening Planet, spanning nearly sixty years. 🌍

We pressed play, and I responded ~ as if the piano were in conversation with the forest itself….
No plan, just presence.

It was a joy to create these moments together ~ reminder to slow down, to listen deeply, to return to the present.
