Art & resistance
Art has always been part of struggle. From songs and poetry to film and visual art, culture helps us tell the truth about this system, expose misogyny, racism and transphobia, and give people the confidence to get organised and fight back.
We see this in Frida Kahlo painting the realities of colonialism, disability and women’s oppression, in Faith Ringgold exposing racism and sexism in the US through story‑quilts and paintings, and in writers and poets like Meena Kandasamy today using novels and verse against caste and gender violence.
Art not as a luxury, but as a tool that helps us name our exploitation, build solidarity across borders and identities and imagine a world beyond capitalism and patriarchy.
On Friday 22 May at Bread & Roses, Dan Hoff from Gurriers, author and activist Meena Kandasamy, and artist Mauro José Esquivel will discuss the role of art in resistance today - how it can challenge power, stand with survivors and oppressed people and point towards a different kind of society.
Join us in Project Arts Centre for this panel and a full day of socialist feminist discussion and organising.

Introducing Dan Hoff: Vocalist and frontman of @gurriersband, who will be joining @amelia.durac of @childofpragueband for Episode 5 (out tomorrow).
In each episode, we get the artists to read out an idea they’ve written in their notes app.
This is “the string” between the experience they had which caused them to write an idea down, that later gets turned into art, whatever form or medium that may take.
Hence… “unravelling the string between art and life”.
Here’s a sneak peek at what one of Dan’s “string” is:a poem he wrote for his partner of 10 years, Tori. 🫶

Featuring:
• Dan Hoff, lead singer of @gurriersband : Gurriers are a Dublin post-punk band formed in 2020. They’re just about to embark on their own headline US tour this month. Their debut album “Come And See” saw them break out of Ireland, touring the UK, Europe, as well as supporting the likes of @turnstileluvconnection, #Kneecap, @inhalerdublin and more. The band are known for being intensely political and instensily supportive of upcoming Irish talent, always bringing emerging acts on the road with them.
• Amelia Durac, vocalist and violinist in @childofpragueband: Child of Prague is a six piece multi instrumentalist band, based in Dublin. Each member comes from a different musical background, blending Midwest emo, traditional Irish music and folk, infused with violin and saxophone. Think: @blackcountrynewroad @racingmountpleasant

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
