LISTENING AS BUILDING
What does it mean to host a listening session? Who are we listening to, and why?
‘The Urban Listening Room: Listening Session – Build in Process’ brings together project collaborators and audiences in East London to reflect on this collectively.
Emerging from a two-day sound system workshop, this free session listens to uncertainty, testing, adjustment, and resolution in real time, while previewing the sound system developed across the workshops as it comes into being.
Hosted by @daddydarkrdc, the evening continues a journey first opened through our November 2025 session with Run Dem Sound. Listen to selected vinyl records, conversation, and the relationship between sound, space, and collective presence.
While open to all, spaces are limited | Book your spot

BUILD IN PROCESS
THE PROTOTYPE
On 6 May 2026, we welcomed @david.chen02 to the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture to lead an early prototyping session for the sound system that will be collectively explored through ‘The Urban Listening Room: Build in Process’ workshops and listening sessions across 14-15 May 2026 (link in bio).
Working at the intersection of DJ culture and design engineering, David proves fundamental to how this system is built, tested, and experienced in space, and is so generous in sharing his expertise.
Thank you to @daddydarkrdc, @bandi.jala, Arella Ezeugoh, @coldconditioning, Tandi Nywanza, @a_mante, and Dana Sousa-Limbu for this participatory research.
We received an overwhelmingly positive response to the workshop call-out and are deeply grateful for the interest. We’ll aim to respond to all registrations by Monday 11 May 2026.
For those unable to join this iteration, we’re continuing to build support for future free workshops and listening sessions bringing people together in space through sound, preserving the sonic culture of London.

ONE YEAR ON: David Chen / @david.chen02 @handlewithcare.store
A series where we check in with our contributing designers, from our 2024 Exhibit with Kindred / @kindred_ldn
David Chen (b. Dallas, 2002) is an emerging product designer and creative technologist based in London. Having recently completed a Master’s in Design Engineering at Imperial College, he is establishing a strong interdisciplinary practice which explores the intersection between DJ culture and design engineering.
What have you been up to since the exhibit?
Since the Kindred show, I’ve graduated from the Design Engineering MEng course at Imperial College. Since then, I’ve been freelancing full-time in audio-related product design and engineering, mainly designing and building custom soundsystems. Towards the end of last year, I also started a party with my friend Tai called “Motion”, which now has a residency at BBE Store in Hackney.
Your thoughts on how being part of the exhibit impacted you or your practice.
For me, the show was an introduction to a field of extremely talented designers and makers, some of whom I currently work with and all of whom I draw inspiration from.
What’s next, anything new to share?
I always find myself working on many projects at once, so I’ll narrow it down to the ones I’m most excited about. I’ve released a DJ headphone which has been gaining traction over the past month or so – I’ve been able to collaborate with some of my GOAT DJs and producers, including Benji B, Charlie Dark and Steven Julien. So I’m excited to see how far that project goes. I’m also working on a cool custom home hifi system with my friend Saji, who runs a spatial design practice called Protean. And of course, my party “Motion”, for which we are currently designing and building a soundsystem from repurposed oriental furniture. The next step for me would be to move into a proper studio space and lock in. So we’ll see how that goes.

This is an NJD dub siren with a raw aluminium chassis.
The aim of this modification was to simplify the function and reorganise the layout, arranging touchpoints to avoid accidental activation while giving the unit a clearer visual structure. The build-it-yourself flat-pack design of the siren was chosen for its accessible manufacturing process.
Catch it in use exclusively @motioncrewonly 🚨

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
Keep track of Instagram updates discreetly while protecting your privacy and staying anonymous.
