DCTV Workshops is in a moment of transition. As we close out the current workshop season, we’re focusing on the fundamentals, dialing in your camera skills from frame rates to composition, and breaking down what it actually takes to fund your work through documentary grant writing.

At the same time, we’re also opening the door to what’s next: our Summer Season!

The new season kicks off May 30 with Lighting Fundamentals, bringing a refreshed lineup of workshops designed to go deeper, get more hands-on, and support you at every stage of the process. If you’ve been looking for a sign to start (or restart), Workshops is here for you!

WE ARE PAT (Fri May 29 – Thu Jun 4) explores the evolution of gender identity and comedy from the 90s to now through the lens of the iconic SNL sketch, It’s Pat. The film examines Pat’s origins as a joke rooted in cultural anxiety of the 90s around gender while drawing striking parallels to today’s culture wars around transness and queerness. Trans and non-binary comedians and culture-makers reimagine and rewrite the original Pat sketches, using camp and humor to reclaim and re-envision an iconic character in American comedy.
