Whether it’s wonky UK bass experiments for Hessle Audio and Timedance, or more recent excursions into pounding house music via Dekmantel and Faith Beat, Ploy has injected a singular energy into the UK underground over the last decade.
Moving into 2026, the South London-based artist is keen to keep the momentum flowing both in the studio and on the dancefloor, with the return of his Deaf Test club night “in a new capacity”, and a follow-up to his excellent 2025 releases, ‘It’s Later Than You Think’ and ‘The Flirt’.
For this contribution to DJ Mag’s Selections series, Ploy offers a taste of what you can expect to hear from his upcoming sets and releases, including trippy tech-house from Brett Johnson, wiggly synth goodness from King Kooba, and hypnotic drum action from Onionz.

Sam Smith has been making waves in the British underground dance music scene and beyond since his debut as Ploy on Hessle Audio in 2016. In the ten years since the producer cemented his reputation in the UK techno scene through further releases on esteemed labels such as Timedance, Hemlock Recordings and L.I.E.S. He went on to establish his own imprint Deaf Test in 2021 before shifting his attention towards house music three years later.
Last year saw the culmination of not one, but two Ploy standout projects: the Dekmantel double EP, 'It's Later Than You Think', and 'The Flirt' which came out on Ryan Elliot's Faith Beat label. While the former is an off-kilter four-to-the-floor workout across 8 tracks, the latter showcases Smith's penchant for groove and melody with hints of garage throughout.
Ploy's discography may be genre fluid however some things are non-negotiable. Listen to any of his tunes, be it era-defining UK techno hit 'Ramos' or 2025's 'Love Song', and you'll hear full throttle, cutting edge club music with weighty subs, rattling drums and wild risers.
Ploy joins us at @badaboum.paris on January 23, head over to the link in bio for tickets.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed?
