When I think about artist who have catalogs that are integral building blocks of Hip Hop music, Roy Ayers is up near the top of the list.

After James Brown’s discography, laid the foundation of sample source material in the mid/late 80s, Jazz became the new gold for beat makers going into the 90s and “Roy Ayers joints” became premium stock.

For me, Roy was the first connection between music I loved and my Dad’s record collection. I remember watching the video for Ed OGs “Be A Father To Your Child” with friends in middle school and saying “My dad has that record!”

That was impetus for me to go (sneak) into his collection and do what every lover of the music did at the time—dig and discover.

Thank you Baba Roy for providing the vibes —literally—for music that has inspired generations and more to come .

Always a great time at one of the best venues on the planet to play, @onlyyoulounge. It’s rare to find a music lover crowd that’s there to hear YOU and willing to embrace the journey you take them on.

I’ve been fortunate to DJ in some really cool places in my years, but going back home to the area where I was born and raised—the 757–I’m warmly reminded of where I get all my sensibilities from.

The moment I feared has come to fruition…

My backpack with my computer, backup drive, and other pertinent DJ accoutrements was taken on my way home from Pittsburgh. I’ve been stuck the last few days…exhausted at the idea—reality of—having to start all that diligent work over again.

But this is how life goes.

I see the lesson(s) in this misfortune, and after a break/hiatus/regroup, i’ll turn it into a blessing.

As said in the video, digital gigs I already have locked in the next few months I am good to go ✅ but i won’t be accepting new bookings for awhile until i get back up and running.

The biggest thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years and trusted me to make your nights and events one to remember.

THIS IS NOT A RETIREMENT (I don’t quit) but a rejuvenation.
