The festival has given the artist carte blanche, resulting in an image that explores how late capitalism is configured as a system that generates visual debris and disposable objects.

Taken from the series 'Corporate Melancholy' and created in collaboration with a generative AI tool, the image questions the coherence of the system. A visual proposal that reinforces the festival’s commitment to artistic transversality and catalan talent.

Thousands of cinema professionals, including prominent directors, authors, actors and industry leaders from across Europe and beyond have come together around this simple but urgent message: Europe needs cinema. Cinema needs Europe.
They have signed an Open Letter calling on the European Commission, the European Parliament and Member States to preserve and reinforce the MEDIA programme as a major instrument of support for European independent cinema.

For more than 35 years, MEDIA has helped European stories travel across borders supporting independent production, theatrical distribution, festivals, training, and a thriving audiovisual ecosystem across the continent.

Today, that success story is under threat. As part of negotiations on the EU budget for 2028–2034, the European Commission proposes to integrate MEDIA into the new AgoraEU programme. While the overall budget may increase, the current proposal offers no guaranteed, dedicated funding for the film and audiovisual sector. The text remains vague with no assurance that the key actions that made MEDIA successful will continue.

The open letter celebrates MEDIA’s role in promoting cultural diversity, artistic freedom, jobs, innovation and European soft power, and calls for the programme’s future to be secured and its resources reinforced.

▪️ Corporate Melancholy: La melancolia corporativa és la petjada afectiva d’un sistema que es manté en equilibri gràcies al desgast dels cossos. El late capitalism produeix runes abans fins i tot d’haver acabat de construir els seus espais: oficines provisionals, protocols obsolets, subjectivitats que ja neixen amortitzades. El cos laboral és infraestructura i residu, peça funcional i excedent gestionable.

La maquinària exigeix productivitat i capacitat d’absorbir la seva pròpia deixalla: dades sobrants, objectes descartables, emocions improductives, temps fragmentat. Els cossos operen com a unitats d’emmagatzematge dels excedents, convertits en dipòsits de fatiga, en tecnologies de contenció de la fallida estructural. El sistema es manté en equilibri sobre cossos desgastats.

▪️ Tanit Plana (Barcelona, 1975) ha exposat a La Virreina Centre de la Imatge i a la Sala Canal de Isabel II i ha rebut beques com Art for Change (Fundació “”la Caixa””) i Leonardo (BBVA). La seva obra forma part de col·leccions com el MACBA, el CA2M i el MNAC.

Corporate melancholy is the affective footprint of a system that is maintained in balance thanks to the wear and tear of bodies. Late capitalism produces rubble before it has even finished building its spaces: provisional offices, obsolete protocols, subjectivities that are already born amortized. The labor body is infrastructure and residue, a functional piece and manageable surplus.

Machinery demands productivity and the capacity to absorb its own waste: leftover data, disposable objects, unproductive emotions, fragmented time. Bodies operate as storage units for surpluses, converted into deposits of fatigue, into technologies for containing structural failure. The system is maintained in balance on worn-out bodies.

Corporate melancholy is the affective footprint of a system that is maintained in balance thanks to the wear and tear of bodies. Late capitalism produces rubble before it has even finished building its spaces: provisional offices, obsolete protocols, subjectivities that are already born amortized. The labor body is infrastructure and residue, a functional piece and manageable surplus.

Machinery demands productivity and the capacity to absorb its own waste: leftover data, disposable objects, unproductive emotions, fragmented time. Bodies operate as storage units for surpluses, converted into deposits of fatigue, into technologies for containing structural failure. The system is maintained in balance on worn-out bodies.
