Following last night’s success, Leo hosts another event with us, next Saturday 30th May 6-8pm 🎶

Please join us for ’Three Lectures’ a performance by Leo Bussi, Donna Marcus Duke and D Mortimer. This performance marks the culmination of Leo’s month long residency at The Writers’ Room. Each writer will give a performance-lecture about an art object that has had a significant impact on their writing practice. This will include reflections on materiality, the social history of the object’s aesthetics and its the poetic possibilities. Also expect a projector, possibly a lectern and talented performers.

When we read or listen to each other we come to a more rigorous understanding of the people constituting our community. And when we challenge the trope of style and form that trans writing has come to inherit, we regain agency in shaping the language that describes our communal sensibilities. And maybe most importantly, it can just be really fun.

This Sunday evening at @loveaffairbasement I’m sooooo excited to be launching @schoolofcvntology’s Class of 2025 Anthology ❤️ Edited by moi and my eternal superior @elliotlindx, the anthology is the culmination of months of work undertaken by our super talented inaugural class. Last summer we had the dream of working with these fifteen amazing writers, meeting twice a week with an onslaught of gaggy guest tutors at our Spitalfields home in @houseofannetta.

It was such gift being in a consistent literary community over the course of three months. Bob Glück’s quote rings — “Other writers don’t just teach me how to write, they teach me how to be. The self is collaboratively made.” Since the course ended I’ve been thinking a lot about what gathering around literature and writing can do for a community. When we read or listen to each other we come to a more rigorous understanding of the people constituting our community. And when we challenge the trope of style and form that trans writing has come to inherit, we regain agency in shaping the language that describes our communal sensibilities. And maybe most importantly, it can just be really fun.

I’ll be talking about @ti55ue , @schoolofcvntology and the amazing scene of queer and trans publishers and events populating London today. We’ll dip back into how previous queer literary scenes organised themselves, including the New Narratives and Topside Press.

Maybe most importantly though, I wanna ask the room a few important questions: what *specifically* do we want? What scale of change can we effect? How can we get what we want and what resources do we already have to get it? Hopefully by looking at examples from grassroots publishing scenes we might find some inspirations 🤞😬
