my self-titled covers album 'dorian electra' is out now. i usually don't like writing long captions but here we go haha. I made this covers album as a way to get myself out of a creative rut that felt tied to the cultural moment we’re in - where it feels like everything is a remake or a throwback or nostalgia bait and it’s kind of hard to imagine making anything that feels truly "new." ("the slow cancellation of the future" for the mark fisher heads). so as an experiment, instead of trying to push against that and feeling trapped, I wondered what would happen if I leaned all the way in - as hard as possible - and instead of even trying to write "new" songs, I remade some of my favorite old ones as an exercise. this took the pressure off of writing and let me focus more on the sound and feeling and use my voice in different styles and experiment in a more playful way ("play" is something i've been working desperately hard on getting back in touch with over the last year). unexpectedly, even though I didn't write the songs, they ended up feeling incredibly personal to me. that's why I called it my name. TLDR: Making this covers album is what allowed me to fall back in love with music. I am so insanely grateful to all my friends who worked on this album and we've already started making DE5 which feels so natural after doing these covers together. Thanks for coming along the ride with me🩶 I hope you like it. (full post with album credits coming soon)

my self-titled covers album 'dorian electra' is out now. i usually don't like writing long captions but here we go haha. I made this covers album as a way to get myself out of a creative rut that felt tied to the cultural moment we’re in - where it feels like everything is a remake or a throwback or nostalgia bait and it’s kind of hard to imagine making anything that feels truly "new." ("the slow cancellation of the future" for the mark fisher heads). so as an experiment, instead of trying to push against that and feeling trapped, I wondered what would happen if I leaned all the way in - as hard as possible - and instead of even trying to write "new" songs, I remade some of my favorite old ones as an exercise. this took the pressure off of writing and let me focus more on the sound and feeling and use my voice in different styles and experiment in a more playful way ("play" is something i've been working desperately hard on getting back in touch with over the last year). unexpectedly, even though I didn't write the songs, they ended up feeling incredibly personal to me. that's why I called it my name. TLDR: Making this covers album is what allowed me to fall back in love with music. I am so insanely grateful to all my friends who worked on this album and we've already started making DE5 which feels so natural after doing these covers together.
