The song remains the same. The video is new.
I always had a story idea for an animated video for “Banking Blues,” a song I wrote for “Sky Road Songs,” an album I produced for Elliott Sharp’s Terraplane back in 2012.

Now premiering on International Workers’ Day 2026, the video was realized and directed by Dorian Saisse and his team of animators.

Preceding my 2024 solo album, “Inside Outsider,” “Banking Blues” was also my ‘debut’ as a lead vocalist on a commercial release.

He leads the projects Carbon and Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics, and Terraplane and has pioneered ways of applying fractal geometry, chaos theory, and genetic metaphors to musical composition and interaction.

Farewell to Michael Tilson Thomas, brilliant conductor and musical thinker. During my time in Buffalo 1974-78, there were visits to the Buffalo Philharmonic where I enjoyed MTT conducting Mahler, Beethoven, Lukas Foss, and more. His recording of Morton Feldman's Coptic Light for the Argo label is brooding and luminous - one of the great orchestral works of the 20th century.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Recording Octal Book 5 at Studio zOaR using the 8-string guitarbass built for me by @saul_koll_guitars. Saul and I began discussing the features for this in 2003 and I was able to pick up the completed instrument from him in 2005 at his workshop in Portland, OR. The magnetic pickup is by @lollarpickups and I later added a Realist piezo transducer by @davidgagestrings. For this recording, the mag pickup is fed into the Fender Princeton Reverb amp mic'd with an EV RE20 dynamic and the piezo into a Fender 75 with Hartke cab mic'd with an EV PL76 condensor. A Neumann TLM170 (not visible) in omni mode serves as a room mic.

The pieces are improvisatory but each is based on a specific technique or process. The tuning was derived from prime numbers with octave displacements to account for string tension and gauges.

Volumes I-III of Octal were released by @cleanfeedrecords and Volume IV by zOaR on Bandcamp.

Volume 5 will be released on June 5 on zOaR Bandcamp.

The Esquire lives in that corner and is not heard on this recording.

On the bench today, the Strat that was my main guitar in Terraplane and built in 1992. It's a partscaster with a Fender Japan 62 body, a Fender Mexico neck, and Texas Special pickups. Adjusted neck, polished frets, conditioned fretboard, cleaned electronics. Good to go!
