This Friday on the 29th of May at @komedia_brighton we are hosting an end of uni celebration, after our final degree show. We welcome everyone; students, parents, lecturers, mothers and lovers. Tickets in bio for £6!

Meet Emily Greenham🩵 @emdo_g

Third Year Printmaker at @uniofbrighton , @fineartprintmaking_uob

Her work will be featured in this years @brightonsummershowsopen from 30th May-7th June in the printmaking studios on the 3rd floor of Grand Parade Campus.

“Through my current practice, I take an experimental documentary approach to explore contemporary society’s disconnection from nature. In the work The Disappearing Dance, I investigate the UK’s endangered starling population, which has declined by
70- 80% since the 1970s. Using 16mm film I recorded the starling’s murmuration’s around Brighton pier. This analogue medium echoes the endangerment of the starlings-as a fragile, disappearing process in today’s digital world. After filming, I buried the reel of film in Brighton beach for one month. This process of submerging the physical material of the film allowed nature to break down the image of the starlings, reflecting on their endangerment along Brighton’s coastline. As the physical environment slowly decomposes the images of the starlings on the films surface, the material itself begins to mirror their reality, how they are living in an environment that is no longer sustaining their existence. Parts of the film have also been hand-developed with seaweed collected from Brighton beach, to further deepen the films connection to the starling’s surroundings and to reject the harmful processes used in contemporary image making.
My aim of ‘The Disappearing Dance’ is to create an archive of the starlings, to preserve their memory and to create a moment of stillness to reconnect to our surroundings.”

The fun doesn’t end after Falmouth Worm Charming Championships! Once the worms have all been counted, the celebration slips underground to help The Cornish Bank celebrate our 5th Birthday! There will be worms, there will be cake—not necessarily combined.

Music from French, trash electro-disco, theatrical band Chewy She, Lady Bluegammon spinning vinyl and digital bangers to keep you on the dance floor and Pzyk Gürls providing cosmic psych-punk riffs, glorious distortion and costumes, always costumes.

And to keep you charming, Lucky Rod will be providing the worm food out back! Come and check out their special squiggly, wriggly menu for the night.

Atomic Asteroid’ came about really quickly. I bought an ngoni after a gig, a Malian fretless banjo,
from a musician who played at the Cornish Bank. New instruments often spark new songs, and this one
practically wrote itself. The song is about loss, but it also reflects the idea that we’re made of the same stuff as
asteroids the atoms and energy that have been traveling through the universe forever. So, in that sense,
nothing is ever truly lost, just transformed. The initial idea was then brought together with Nou and my son Henry.
We were creating an electronic version of Blind Yeo, and Henry, who’s studying electronic music in London,
helped us finish the song together. And that’s not the only family connection – my daughter also made some amazing analog experimental visuals for the song, adding even more depth and beauty to it. Its on our ne EP link in BIO

To celebrate the end of our residency at @shai.space we host a day party.

The event starts with a sit-down three course dinner in the space included in the Dinner & Dance tickets (limited availability!). A chance to eat some lovely veggie food made by friends of the party and get to know everyone.

Expect our residents to then play everything from dub, disco, krautrock and deep cuts from across the globe through our system :)

All proceeds will be split between @medicalaidpal & @growtoknow.world
