La veille du départ à l’imprimerie du spécial mode, nous avons appris la disparition de Giorgio Armani. Pionnier du minimalisme, sourd aux effets de mode, concentré à répéter sur ses podiums la foi inébranlable qu’il avait dans le style moderne et novateur inventé à l’aube des années 80, il avait presque fini par nous convaincre de son immortalité. Une sensation encore amplifiée par l’assimilation par la culture : Warhol l’a croqué en pop idole, Richard Gere a enfilé comme personne ses vestes fluidissimes dans American Gigolo, Tadao Ando lui a bâti un temple à son image, Bret Easton Ellis l’a cité ad libitum dans American Psycho… À l’heure où un nombre record de grandes maisons sont confrontées à un palpitant jeu de chaises musicales, la ligne de conduite de Giorgio Armani a une résonance toute particulière. Concentration sans faille, constance et récurrence, discipline à tous les étages, et vision sans compromis, tel semble être, en partie, le sous-texte de sa formule miracle pour durer. Dans la dernière interview qu’il a donnée à Harper’s Bazaar France, il y a moins d’un an, Giorgio Armani disait : « Ma mode est une véritable façon de voir l’acte de s’habiller : avec caractère, force et dignité. » Ce numéro lui est dédié.
