Eric Souther
Video Artist, Toolmaker, Curator, & Assistant Professor of Kinetic Imaging @wmufrosticart

Excited to share I'm a Next Level Leader Fellow at @westernmichu | My focus of the fellowship is working on @resonantgallery WMU Grand Rapids.
Working on creating 3d Buffer & Slitscan SOPs and POPs for use in @touchdesigner
The 3D Buffer allows you to define how many copies and the offset of time. You can also offset the copies in X,Y, & Z. 3D Slitscan can run vertical, horizontal, z-space, and radial. It's running smoothly, but can also look quite glitchy :) Animation from Adobe Mixamo.
Excited to screen at the Open AIR Media Festival, Friday May 29
@ Film Scene in the Park, 404 E College St, Iowa City, IA >>>8:30pm<<<
Participating artists:
Israel Lucius Barnes, Karl Erickson, Laura Iancu, Sarah Lasley, Dwayne LeBlanc, Lex Leto, Song Lu, Maggie Murphy, Emily Sasmor, clay scofield, Eric Souther, Jenelle Stafford, Courtney Taniguchi, Roy Taylor, Michelle Trujillo, Masha Vlasova

Databending TOP for use in @touchdesigner FREE link in bio >>Philosophical Tools👀
Databending is the practice of treating images as raw byte streams and corrupting those bytes on purpose opening a JPEG in a text editor, replacing some characters, saving it, and watching the decoder render the damage as color shifts, streaks, and broken regions. This is often an offline process: corrupt a file, save it, open it, repeat.
Databending TOP is a TouchDesigner Custom Operator that does it live → corrupt → decode round-trip running every frame. No file-saving, no Python rendering, no waiting. It's a CPU-only plugin that runs in real time on Macs & PCs (download installers for each).
Built on TD 2025.32460 | Runs on Windows 11, MacOS 11 Big Sur or later.
Glitch technique catalog inspired by venam/glitching_images. JPEG encoding/decoding by libjpeg-turbo (BSD-3-Clause + IJG license).
Experimenting with building a glitch SOP & POP for use in @touchdesigner

Last few days to see Flicker & Roll at the Resonant Gallery! Curated by @ericsouther & @micah_alhadeff on view until April 2nd.
This exhibition showcases a multi-generational approach to exploring analog video as a creative medium, tracing its origins to the late 1960s and early 1970s to present. Artists approaching this then-new technology quickly discovered the limits of its possibilities and issues of access outside commercial television studios. This led to the development of artist-built tools that laid the groundwork for today's open-source ethos, a radical hacking of the black box that opened new ways of seeing and sparked a continual fascination with dismantling and reimagining technological systems, using error itself as a creative medium.
While analog has been widely replaced by digital technologies, a dedicated community of working artists continues to choose this medium, cultivating an almost cult-like following. The language of analog continues to evolve as artists intertwine new processes, 3D animation and creative coding, into their workflows, challenging notions of technological obsolescence. Their work demonstrates that new ground can still be found in something "old," creating new hybrid forms by mixing contemporary technologies with analog processes.

Excerpts from Devotional Signals~ Live Cinema Performance for Off the Screen selection in the 64th @aafilmfest, The World's oldest experimental and avant-garde film festival, March 27, 2026.
See bio for a link to full documentation.
Special thanks to Ione Calvin @ownseyart
for helping to document, along with the Michigan Theater Tech crew you all are amazing! Performance created with @touchdesigner + @ableton
Devotional Signals ~ is an audio-visual alchemic process that explores the materiality of the signal as it shifts through historical forms into contemporary graphics. The leap motion was used to create a twelve complex oscillator spatial mixer with x & z, y generates an envelope (one per hand), invisible planes left and right of the performer trigger drums that can be grabbed mid air morphing the audio-visual material.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
