2024 August I was in Berlin
Karl, the magical dreamer and a silly friend of mine, came up with an idea to organise an exchange residency between Berlin and Tokyo, and the very generous Berlin senate granted us.
The plan was to have Rosa in Japan for a month, with Black Boboi / Julia collaborating with her, and then I would go to Berlin for a month to collaborate with Eddna and Rosa. And as a finale, Julia and Utena join us to create andto perform at POP KULTUR.
It was a very scary and exciting summer for me. I never imagined I would get a grant to do something I wanted to do and collaborate with my friends in beautiful Berlin.
Some days I hang out with Eddna and Rosa together, and sometimes separately, to understand their artistic input and output, which was so inspiring and in which I also found so much in common. By sharing the struggles and the joy of being an independent solo artist in this era, I think we built something really special, and when I think about it, I still feel that butterfly in my stomach. To be given a place and time to concentrate and collaborate was simply an amazing gift.
During the time, I was given an assignment to write a song for all 5 of us, which is “Seagull and Bear”
All the essence put into this song came from that August, and it’s a bit like a treasure for me.
It took me so long to finish it, but James added some beautiful trombone, and Utena’s voice gave it a truly sacred feeling, and now it’s finally done.
The miraculous Tao Tajima made the music video.
When I thought about making this music video, I wanted it to be about the world, with a micro and macro perspective. Tajima-san just understood everything from the music and my very vague request and created this beautiful piece.
I’m so proud of how it all came together and to be able to show it to the world.
The immersive experience watching the video is actually really amazing…. I hope you all can experience it!

2024 August I was in Berlin
Karl, the magical dreamer and a silly friend of mine, came up with an idea to organise an exchange residency between Berlin and Tokyo, and the very generous Berlin senate granted us.
The plan was to have Rosa in Japan for a month, with Black Boboi / Julia collaborating with her, and then I would go to Berlin for a month to collaborate with Eddna and Rosa. And as a finale, Julia and Utena join us to create andto perform at POP KULTUR.
It was a very scary and exciting summer for me. I never imagined I would get a grant to do something I wanted to do and collaborate with my friends in beautiful Berlin.
Some days I hang out with Eddna and Rosa together, and sometimes separately, to understand their artistic input and output, which was so inspiring and in which I also found so much in common. By sharing the struggles and the joy of being an independent solo artist in this era, I think we built something really special, and when I think about it, I still feel that butterfly in my stomach. To be given a place and time to concentrate and collaborate was simply an amazing gift.
During the time, I was given an assignment to write a song for all 5 of us, which is “Seagull and Bear”
All the essence put into this song came from that August, and it’s a bit like a treasure for me.
It took me so long to finish it, but James added some beautiful trombone, and Utena’s voice gave it a truly sacred feeling, and now it’s finally done.
The miraculous Tao Tajima made the music video.
