I’m going to be talking and sharing music for Echoes of a Silk Drum and maybe in more ways talk about my dad. I love him dearly, and wish we could connect about the other things I feel so passion about: 70s-80s Ghanaian Highlife.

Anyways, come through to hear the ways I’m working through a relationship filled with love and fraught communication experienced over long whatsapp calls.

I’ll ask, “how do you share songs in your mother tongue, when you can’t fully speak it?” and “how can I grow my relationship with my parents through the polyrhythmic funk tunes made in a country I sometimes call home?”

Maybe we will find out on the dance floor, or at least through a moment of listening.

He traces music back to its roots, starting in West Africa to explore the lineage of funk, disco, and modern club sounds. Kevin marries these foundations with beatdown-driven electronic music that’s soulful, sexy, and Black.
