Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations. Working for a sustainable world and secure future of food for all. Our actions are our future.
We’re grateful to bees and other pollinators for the vital role they play in our daily lives.
By pollinating both wild and cultivated plants, they help sustain biodiversity, support food production and keep ecosystems thriving.
Close to 75 percent of the world’s major crops benefit, to some extent, from pollinators — especially fruits, vegetables and nuts.
This #WorldBeeDay, let’s recognize the powerful partnership between people and pollinators, and work together to protect them for a sustainable future.

Food packaging helps keep food safe — but adds to plastic pollution.
Can recycled and alternative food contact materials be part of the solution without risking #FoodSafety? A new @FAO report explores how.

What connects tilapia farming and guava growing? 💧
For Olga Vargas, a farmer in Buenos Aires, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, the answer is water.
As rising temperatures, irregular rainfall and extreme climate events make farming more difficult, Olga is using irrigation and water storage to better manage the dry season and keep producing.
With support from a joint @FAO and @UNICEF project, a reservoir and irrigation system now help bring water to her guava trees, reduce losses and strengthen her farm’s resilience. 🌱
The project, financed by the Joint SDG Fund, was implemented with Costa Rica’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Health and the local governments of Buenos Aires and Guatuso.

No bees = no food systems. 🐝🚫🥘
75% of the world’s major crop types depend on pollinators.
On this #WorldBeeDay, we’re highlighting how @FAO, as part of the @unitednations team on the ground, is working to protect these tiny heroes and the livelihoods that depend on them.
From restoring ecosystems to building climate resilience, here is how @FAO is making a difference:
Belize: FAO-backed projects support beekeeping and agroforestry to increase harvests and restore vital ecosystems.
Jordan: Community-led beekeeping and forest restoration programs supported by FAO are building green jobs and climate resilience.
Türkiye: FAO-supported training helps women beekeepers improve production, diversify products, and grow sustainable businesses.
Protecting pollinators is essential for achieving #GlobalGoals like Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Together, we can ensure a sustainable future for both bees and people. 🌻✨

🔴 The Work We Do special episode on the #StraitOfHormuz crisis outlines @FAO's policy recommendations for immediate response, medium-term adaptation, and long-term resilience.
The window for preventive action is closing quickly. Decisions farmers and governments make now on fertilizer use, imports, financing, and crop choices will determine whether the world faces a severe food price crisis in six to 12 months.
Chief Economist, Maximo Torero, explains.

Everyday is a learning day 🐝🐝
Well… the past two days I have learnt so much about Mangrove Honey.
It’s been Days of having conversations around bees and other pollinators , biodiversity, livelihoods and ecosystems and it really reminded me how connected nature is.
And as a pastoral woman during this International Year of Rangelands, I will always continue amplifying the importance of protecting ecosystems because whether it is mangroves, forests or rangelands, healthy land supports life. 🌍
Happy World Bee Day from Mombasa

🍓 Without bees and other pollinators most of our nutritious food would disappear.

In 2025, conflict drove hunger across the world.
Markets destroyed.
Crops wiped out.
Humanitarian access blocked.
When food systems are attacked, civilians pay the price.
The rules of war are a line of defence against hunger. They must be respected.

Welcome to the living heritage of tea — one of the world’s oldest beverages and the most consumed drink after water. Tea cultivation supports livelihoods for millions of smallholder growers, who produce 60% of the world’s tea.

More than a game. More than a team. 💙
As the @italrugby women’s team continues its @womenssixnations journey, their voices remind us that sport can empower, inspire and create opportunities for future generations.
They encourage young girls to believe in their potential, both on and off the field. Values that also guide @FAO’s commitment to building a more equal and sustainable future for all. 🌍
Because when girls are empowered, entire communities grow stronger. 💪
Più di uno sport. Più di una squadra. 💙
--------
