How do the inherited infrastructures of art and culture - its hegemonic canons, institutions, power dynamics, and representative frameworks - shape what is made, who is seen, and how stories are told?

From across the foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome, this round table brings together three practitioners in visual art, film, and research: Latefa Wiersch, whose exhibition Atlas Studios at the Istituto Svizzero plays with inherited narratives of otherness and empire; Chelsea Winstanley, a Māori filmmaker whose work documents indigenous self-determination within contemporary art institutions; and Diogo Rodrigues de Barros of the Bibliotheca Hertziana, whose research offers a comparative study of art institutions and critical discourses in Italy and Latin America.

In collaboration with Istituto Svizzero, Bibliotheca Hertziana, and the New Zealand Embassy in Rome.

Studierende aller Semester des Studiengang Kunst HF
präsentieren ihre künstlerischen Arbeiten.

Kunst bewegt sich zwischen Fiktion und Wirklichkeit, zwischen Realitäten und ihrer Darstellung. Sie sammelt, hinterfragt und teilt.

Sie wird performt, gesprochen, gemalt. Sie richtet den Blick nach innen und nach aussen, vergleicht das Jetzt mit dem Damals und entwirft mögliche Zukünfte.

Manchmal kehrt sie alles um, provoziert ein grosses Chaos. Und findet gerade darin neue Klarheiten: über Regelsysteme unserer Wahrnehmung, Strukturen und Hierarchien unserer Gesellschaft, Kommunikation im digitalen und Begegnung im physischen Raum.

Kunst ist immer anders. Verbindend ist unsere gemeinsame Existenz im Hier und Jetzt, in einem politischen Klima, das Angst machen kann, und in dem es darauf ankommt, in Bewegung und in Verbindung zu bleiben, Räume zu öffnen, und Gedanken zu teilen. In dem Sinne laden wir herzlich ein zur Arbeitspräsentation – zum Schauen, Zuhören und gemeinsamen Austausch.

Was bedeutet Zugänglichkeit? Welch Rolle spielt Kunst jenseits von Ausstellungsräumen?Institutionen definieren einen Rahmen, geben - oft unausgesprochen - soziale Erwartungen vor, der es Gruppen vereinfacht, miteinander in Kontakt zu treten. Diese unsichtbaren Regelsysteme sind Grenzen, sie schaffen Übersicht, sie halten zusammen. Und sie schliessen aus.

Kunst im "öffentlichen Raum" befragt Erwartungen, Gewohnheiten und soziale Verhaltensweisen.

Die verheerenden Umbrüche in Politik und Gesellschaft der USA haben internationale Folgen. Vier Kunststudierende zeigten dazu im Rahmen des internationalen Festivals im Literaturhaus Zürich Werke aus dem Projekt Reenactment: Fiktion und Wirklichkeit unter der Leitung von Latefa Wiersch, Co-Leiterin Studiengang Kunst HF.

Darin verhandeln die Studierenden den katastrophalen Einfluss der USA auf die Weltpolitik am Beispiel Iran und Ukraine, setzen sich mit afroamerikanischer Geschichte,
mit fraglichen Freiheitsversprechen und mit Popkultur auseinander. Ihre kritischen, schmerzlichen, persönlichen und frechen Projektausarbeitungen demonstrieren, wie Autobiografisches, Wirtschaft, Pop, Kultur und Politik – und schlicht die Erfahrung und das Leben von Menschen – miteinander verwoben sind.

Kunst befragt Erfahrung, Erinnerung, Perspektive.
Wie schaue ich auf mein Leben und wie formen Traum, Erinnerung und Spiegel durch andere den Blick aufs Jetzt?
