Join us on Sunday, May 10th from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm for an ARD Residencies Closing Event for the months of April and May. It will consist of artist talks from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm and open studios from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm with our artists in residency: Ailin Mirlashari (Sweden), Ramma Choi (South Korea) - Fhunyue Gao (Switzerland) and Adham Zidan (Egypt).
It will be a special opportunity to discover their experiences and the outcomes of their research and experimentations during their residency at ARD. The event will be conducted in English with Arabic translation, if needed.

يسعدنا أن نرحب بالفنانة السويسرية فـون جاو، التي ستنضم إلينا في إقامة فنية لمدة أسبوعين كجزء من برنامج إقامات أرض.
فون فنانة ومؤدية، وموسيقية سويسرية من أصول صينية، وهي مؤسسة مشاركة لمنظمة “FAAB G” «الآسيويون النسويون لمناهضة العنصرية في جنيف». تنخرط فون في العمل الثقافي التقاطعي متبنيةً موقفاً نقدياً تجاه هياكل السلطة الاستعمارية، كما تهتم بكيفية تعبير الموسيقى والممارسات الفنية عن مقاومة الاستعمار وتعزيز التضامن بين الثقافات.
خلال فترة إقامتها تسعى فون إلى استكشاف مواقع جغرافية رئيسية والتواصل مع فنانين محليين والاطلاع على الأرشيفات. وتشمل أهدافها دراسة المنهجيات التاريخية والناشئة للتضامن التقاطعي الأفرو-آسيوي، والبحث في كيفية توظيف هذه المنهجيات في الممارسات الموسيقية والفنية وتجسيدها سمعياً وبصرياً من خلال الصوت والأعمال الفنية. ستتعاون فون مع أدهم زيدان طوال فترة إقامتها في القاهرة.

We are excited to welcome Swiss-based artist Fhunyue Gao, who will be joining us for a two-week residency as part of our ARD Residency Program.
Fhunyue is a Swiss artist, performer, and musician of Chinese descent and co-founder of FAAB G (Feminist Antiracist Asians Geneva); she engages in intersectional cultural work with a critical position towards colonial power structures. She is interested in how music and artistic practices can express anti-colonial resistance and foster cross-cultural solidarity.
During her residency, she aims to explore key geographical sites and engage with local artists and archives. Her goals include studying historical and emerging methodologies of Afro-Asian intersectional solidarity, brainstorming on how these can be useful in musical and artistic practices, and making them audible through sound and artwork.
Fhunyue will be collaborating with Adham Zidan throughout her residency in Cairo.

These are the questions that artist and filmmaker Juli Sando @sando.juli_ asked herself during her residency at Istituto Svizzero in Milan.
For one evening, they invite four artists to explore these themes alongside her own work (in progress): Fhunyue Gao @fhungao with her enchanting solo musical performance “YUE月 G”, a tribute to her deceased grandparents, Jeanne Tara @jeannetara with their project “La Restitution” addressing the mourning of our stolen memories, Xin Alessandro Zheng @xinalessandro with his short film “Where the Leaves Fall” which explores grief through a diasporic gaze, and finally Melty’n Pothead @meltyn.pothead with a new performance “I’ll twerk on your ancestor’s grave” which through song, drag and lip-sync stuns with melodies of resistance.

These are the questions that artist and filmmaker Juli Sando @sando.juli_ asked herself during her residency at Istituto Svizzero in Milan.

Chaque début d’année, Zabriskie confie à un·e artiste la réalisation d’un rideau qui vient habiller les fenêtres du lieu depuis l’intérieur de l’espace. Utilisé au fil des expositions et entre les montages, ce rideau offre un certain confort d’intimité aux artistes tout en devenant un élément familier de la vie de l’espace et du rond point de Plainpalais.
Pour cette édition des Rideaux, nous avons choisi d’inviter 9 peintres, basé·e·s ou possédant un lien fort avec Genève. Le artistes invité.e.x.s ont comme autre point commun un style pictural de figuration, questionnant à la fois sa place qui reprend de l’ampleur dans l’art contemporain ainsi que sa place dans l’espace public. Chaque artiste s’occupe d’une fenêtre de l’ancienne salle d’attente. Chaque artiste s’approprie son pan de tissu, choisi personnellement, avant que les diverses peintures ne soient assemblés pour former un rideau unique. Ce geste nous permet d’aborder la peinture d’une manière différente dans un lieu qui, par ses vitrines et son exposition permanente, n’est pas le plus évident pour accueillir ce médium. Ici, la peinture se déploie autrement : en fragments, partagée, en dialogue direct avec le tissu urbain, comme un cadavre-exquis.
Les artistes prennent pour point de départ ce qui fait l’identité du quartier : les statues de bronze Alter Ego de Gérald Ducimetière qui encerclent Zabriskie, la sculpture Frankenstein du collectif KLAT, les passant·e·x·s qui attendent le tram ou qui pressent le pas, ou encore les pigeons qui roucoulent sur la Plaine de Plainpalais. Chaque peinture, chaque fragment du rideau, est pensé comme un reflet ou une trace de ce contexte, et une fois réunis, ils forment une image collective, à la fois cohérente et pleine de dissonances.
L’artiste Debbie Alagen proposera une installation dans les deux cabines attenantes à l’espace, accompagné d’une lecture.

Annual translinguistic exchange programme for sound artists in Switzerland since 2022. A series of polymorphic performances that offer the opportunity to experiment with new sounds and new spaces.
