🌀 60 Years of Fluxus in Wuppertal.
24-Hour Happening | June 5–6, 1965

On June 5, 1965, just over two weeks ago, one of the most radical art events in German history took place in a villa in Wuppertal’s Briller Viertel: the legendary 24-Hour Happening at Galerie Parnass.

⚡ Wolf Vostell
⚡ Bazon Brock
…they gathered for one day and one night to dissolve the boundaries between music, art, movement, silence, and machine.

This wasn’t just a performance. It may have been the German birth of the Fluxus movement. An early manifesto in action - live, unfiltered, uncompromising.

📍 The venue? A bourgeois Jugendstil villa – now a senior residence, but then a laboratory of artistic rebellion.

No museum, no plaque, no official memory.
And that’s exactly why we should remember it now.

Because what happened there wasn’t just art – it was the breakdown of convention, the performance as revolution, the moment art became event, idea, presence. The moment art became more than the final output! The beginning of Fluxus in Germany. 🥳

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just acquired a stunning piece from @kimasendorf‘s “Alternate” collection. This series, released in December 2023, comprises 200 unique digital artworks, each a testament to Asendorf’s innovative approach to generative art.

Each piece in the “Alternate” collection begins with simple compositions and color palettes that evolve endlessly, developing depth in geometry and color over time. The artworks are coded in GLSL (WebGL2) and JavaScript, utilizing the P3 color space and adapting to any screen size. Notably, the code is fully on-chain, ensuring the artworks are delivered directly from the smart contract without reliance on third-party render engines. Each NFT includes four versions of the artwork, which owners can alternate by interacting with the smart contract—a process that incurs a fee and is irreversible.

A remarkable aspect of this collection is that 75% of the pieces are owned by unique collectors. This broad distribution indicates a high level of interest and confidence in the collection, which bodes well for its future value appreciation.

Kim Asendorf has garnered admiration from prominent collectors and fellow artists alike. His pioneering work in digital art, particularly his creation of the Pixel Sorting algorithm, has cemented his status as a leading figure in the digital art community.

For those who want to experience Asendorf’s work in person, the exhibition “Complex” will take place at the @goetheinstitut.thailand in Bangkok from March 29 to 30, 2025. This first retrospective will showcase works from 2021 to early 2025, offering a comprehensive insight into Asendorf’s contribution to generative and algorithmic art.
