We’re proud to be part of Backyard Biennial: East, a free, 8-week festival in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery and 40+ local partners across East London

Join us for an exciting programme of exhibitions, performances, workshops and more, celebrating the histories, communities and creative practices that shape the East End.
Find us throughout the Biennial as we share videos of community gathering, solidarity and protest in collaboration with London Community Video Archive and Oitij-Jo Collective in the Zilkha Auditorium at Whitechapel Gallery.
Our three organisations will also come together for a special screening and discussion event on Wednesday 22nd July at the Zilkha Auditorium. Mark it in your calendars and watch this space for more information.

We are excited to announce that our @falmouthphotographyonline MA exhibition Ties That Bind will take place @fourcornerse2 in London, from 27th-31st May - 🗓️ Save the date!
Ties That Bind is a joint exhibition by @its.emma.collins and @sharrongibson_ … it brings together two distinct yet connected explorations of family, belonging and the emotional charge of domestic space.
Emma transforms the family home into a site of uncanny possibility in The Snail and the Mannequin. Through carefully constructed photographic scenes, ordinary rooms become unsettled and strange, exploring non-belonging, estrangement and the experience of seeing the world from an off-centre perspective.
While in LoveyouBye, Sharron reflects on motherhood through repeated acts of separation. Photographing her daughter leaving for school, alongside treasured objects from childhood and images of blood, she explores maternal attachment, memory, and the emotional weight of everyday routines. The blood images return the work to the body, evoking birth, connection, and change.
Together, the works ask us to look again at home, not as a fixed place of comfort but as a complex psychological and emotional landscape. Across both practices, family is understood as a space of intimacy and tension, connection and distance, where love, discomfort, and difference are closely intertwined.

James Whittaker is a documentary photographer, who works in the co-working space on the third floor. He focuses on long-form, multi-year projects exploring the nature of public space.

Tell us a bit about the co-work space?
The third floor is a bit of a sanctuary which helps me compartmentalise work and home life. I keep my equipment there and it acts as a base for scanning, editing, and going out to shoot.
There is a huge diversity of skills in the office – photographers, filmmakers, graphic designers – and always someone to bounce an idea off. There is the right balance of getting your head-down on days where work needs to be done and social, creative interaction over a coffee on the balcony on slower days.
What are you working on at the moment?
I have an upcoming exhibition in the Four Corners Gallery showing a two-year project documenting support for Palestine in East London. It brings together hundreds of expressions of solidarity, from protest and community action to quieter everyday gestures
Your favourite place to eat on Roman Road?
The Globe Town Food Court opposite does amazing khichuri (rice and dahl) with beef jhura (Bengali beef - curried, shredded, then fried) for breakfast and lunch (only £2!). I appreciate curry for breakfast isn’t for everyone, in which case the beef seekh kebab in the evenings is great. Just be careful of the naga! 🌶️ 🥵
