Some nice things I did/enjoyed/was proud of in 2025:
1. Went to Japan with @hannamade . Unforgettable trip, unimpeachable food, perfect company
2. Got a tattoo! This is a stone I picked up the last time I visited my Grandpa’s farm in Wales before he sold it, to remind me of family and my favourite place in the world. @marthasmithtattoo did an amazing job
3. The stone in question
4. Did lots of fun things for @empiremagazine again; maybe the highlight was visiting the set of Fantastic Four and hanging out with Pedro Pascal
5. This stupid photo of me even briefly, embarrassingly, went viral
6. Pedro Pascal later shared my cover story. Thanks Pedro, if you’re reading this
7. Won an award! Thanks, International Cinematographers Guild Publicist’s Awards, if you’re reading this
8. Had a lovely time at Green Man Festival
9. Saw my best pal @gergrumbles killing it on the West End
10. Beamed with pride as @hannamade published her first book. (Who Wants To Live Forever, coming to paperback spring 2025!)
11. Moved in with @hannamade and got just the loveliest welcome. Living with her is just a dream. I am unreasonably lucky
12. Watched an episode of Taskmaster live with Chris Hewitt and we somehow made it to the green room
13. Went to France and lied down for a week near, or in, a pool
14. Went to New York and traced the hallowed steps of Kevin McCallister
15. Went and had a religious experience watching @cktrl live
16. Got back into the baking game in a big way, thanks very much
17. Successfully got my niece hooked on My Neighbour Totoro. Being an uncle to three niblings is just great, isn’t it
18. Did the odd hosting gig. This Q&A for Ballad of Wallis Island was my favourite
19. Went to three film festivals. Only one by boat
20. I just need everyone to know that this was my proudest achievement this year: I bought a labelmaker and reorganised our herbs and spices. The project I will be remembered for. My legacy. My opus.
Here’s to many more well-labelled riches in the year to come!

Two years! Holy heck. Feeling stupidly lucky to share your reflection. “I will warm the sheets like an electric toaster, I will lie by your side like the Sunday roast.”

Last month in Venice, I had the chance to chat to the Sandman and the Cloonman about their new film Jay Kelly. They were absolute nuclear-grade charm machines and didn’t even mind me asking to pose for this very awkward photo in which I look like their teenage son. Anyway, you can read our very fun chat, where we talk about filmmaking, creative insecurity, Batman and Happy Gilmore 2, in the new issue of @empiremagazine, on sale from today.
Feel like a very, very lucky sod to get to do such things and to go to Venice Film Festival as often as I can - but also felt very conflicted this year when at the same time I got to do exciting things like this interview, fellow journalists were being killed in Gaza at an unprecedented rate. It’s not much (at all) but one way to square it with myself was to make a donation to Reporters Without Borders who do amazing work - link in my bio if anyone else feels able to do the same.

Last night at @exeterpicturehouse for a very lovely Ballad Of Wallis Island Q&A with the very lovely @timkeypoet and @tom.basden. The bee’s bollocks, as Charles would put it.

I don’t have the words for how proud I am for @hannamade on her publication day. Which is a bit ironic because she is very good at words. What a privilege to witness her take this amazing book over the finish line, to celebrate her joyful launch party last night, and - from today - to see the actual thing in actual bookshops. Who Wants To Live Forever - on sale now!!!!

Look I know this is committing a grave instagram cliché and I am normally very strict about never taking photos of my food but I just spent nine days eating some of the best food I have ever eaten, what was I supposed to do

As a lifelong acolyte of Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, speaking to director Chris Columbus was proper bucket-list stuff. My five-year-old inner child was very happy. He was a delight and was very polite when I demonstrated my sartorial devotion to the greatest of all Christmas franchises.
I did also offer to send him my 2,000-word essay on why Home Alone 2 is better than Home Alone 1 and I'm sure he's going to ask for the link any day now.
Read the full interview in the shiny new issue of Empire, on sale from today!

Quite mind-blowing that one year ago today you walked into the Crooked Billet pub and immediately became the most important person in my life. Heck of a thing. What a lucky sod I am x
The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles.
