Dallas has never had a shortage of top-notch DJs, but one has made quite a name for himself recently. DJ Willie Dutch, whose name is an homage to the Dallas-raised Motown artist Willie Hutch, recently received a Dallas Entertainment Awards trophy for his skills. He packs local clubs with his sets, but his greatest joy seems to come from sharing rare disco, soul and R&B tracks with the world.

Dutch grew up listening to the classics, which helped solidify his love for a variety of musical legends. “There was always great music being played in my house, from Luther to Al Green, but James Brown’s records are seared into my memory,” he says. “They were special to me then, and I’ve grown to revere them even more.”

He soon realized that his love for an underappreciated era of dance music could be a foundation for a career behind the turntables.

This Friday I’ll be in SF playing the legendary Aliens party w/ @mrbighappy & @coolraul . I’ve admired them both from afar; they’ve been filling my wants list & emptying my wallet for years! Hype to be at @mothershipbar with them.

Saturday I’m at @stillog.bar in San Jose with my man @pnut_sj . We’ve been pen pals for a minute & I’m thrilled we finally get to rock together. We also got Raul doing the disco double dip on back to back nights!

ALIENS 👽 are back at the mothership—this time with special guests Willie Dutch ( Dallas) and Randy Ellis (Los Angeles).

About the party:
ALIENS is a dancefloor transmission. 👽🛸💿
Vinyl only. Deep crates. Oddball selections.

A space for DJs to dig deep and move the room. There’s still so much undiscovered music out there—we’re just bringing some of it back into the light for a few hours. Rare grooves, left turns, things you don’t hear out.

A meeting point for heads, dancers, and anyone tapped in. Come get lost for a bit.

Guest DJ — Willie Dutch (Dallas):

Willie Dutch specializes in deep disco and forgotten funk straight out of Dallas, TX. Through his sets, he’s dedicated to keeping underappreciated Black artists alive on the dance floor and bringing overlooked records back into the light. His monthly party, Funk’s Not Dead, was recently named Best Soul/Funk Night in Dallas.

Guest DJ — Randy Ellis (Los Angeles):

DJ Randy Ellis is a co-owner and label manager of CQQL Records in Los Angeles, California. A longtime vinyl DJ and collector, he’s also worked as a producer, remixer, arranger, event promoter, and collaborator on projects including Loose Shus, Chautauqua, and Elegant Borzoi.

His sets move through deep selections of new, classic, and obscure 12” and 7” records, pulling from boogie, disco, AOR, sweet soul, Italo, house, and funk with the kind of flow that only comes from years behind the decks and in the stacks.
