“GOLDEN WATTLE”

Considered the national floral emblem of Australia. A symbol of spring ahead and warmer days to come. Springing life and colour into the bush. The beautiful blooms of the Golden Wattle embroidered and an arrow thoughtfully shaped into the crown as a reminder to keep pushing forward as there are brighter days to come.

One of the first of the collection. The only hat in the collection that I haven’t collaborated with another artist on! There’s 7 more to come with another little surprise! I can’t wait to share them all with you. None of these hats will be for sale until September 8th @thirroul.co

Let me introduce myself, or rather re-introduce. With so many new hat luvers here I thought I’d better!

My names Myia Resendes. I grew up in Northern BC and Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Canada. I spent the majority of my life growing up outdoors, whether it be camping, fishing, hiking or biking. The outdoors has always been a huge saviour for my mental health. Suffering with Generalised Anxiety Disorder since I was about 6 I’ve had to find things that work for me and quiet the mind. The best things have been the great outdoors and creating. Thus, the name becoming Get Outside. Hopefully it helps to inspire and remind everyone how bloody good nature can be for your mind, body and soul!

After graduating school I was going to take one gap year then head to Uni. One year turned to 10 real quick but I’ve been able to travel the world and meet so many beautiful people as well as learn many lessons and create many stories. 10 years on I’ve finally enrolled in school to be a case worker and have started a career in support work at a homeless shelter. It’s just a bit of proof that not everyone’s path is the same and sometimes being a bit of a gypsy for awhile is more beneficial than studying something you may not want to do once your frontal love is fully developed lol and also sometimes secondary education may not be in your plan at all and that is so OKAY.

I first started making beanies when I worked on the oil rigs in Canada as a medic. An injury while travelling had me move home and get a normal job for awhile. I started making beanies for the guys on site. When I finally got back to Australia I started making them again and selling them at markets. It wasn’t long after that I had a bit of an epiphany moment to start creating hats. Many mistakes and wrecked felts later Get Outside Hat Co. started to kick off and I was making and actually selling hats!?!

Bit of blabbing on but I want their to be a name and personality behind Get Outside and I want you guys to see how much love, time and effort I put into this and the hats. All your support is endlessly appreciated and I’m so grateful I get to create everyday.
