Skaigh Woods - 4th May 2026

As it's pissing down today, I thought I'd cheer everybody up with some bluebells in the woods from the beginning of the month.

I love the "soft" feeling the old Helios 44-2 lens gives, as well as it's wonderful bokeh.

I tend to have way too many images to ever get around to sharing even a small percentage here ... would people prefer I post a whole load of images in one go, or as I do now?

Possibly The Highest Oak on Dartmoor

... this is a totally unsubstantiated claim, based purely on the fact that this oak has managed to take hold quite a way above the northern edge of Black-a-tor Copse and only a little way from the top of Black Tor.

Does anybody know if this is likely?

Again, a very bad photograph shot with a Ensar Anastigmat f6.3 Ensign 105mm enlarger lens adapted (with cardboard and gaffer tape) to fit my Sony a7r 😍

I'm Walking Anyway Wednesday - Tavy Cleave

Last Wednesday was my Partner Walk with @dartmoorpreservation, taking a group around the Haytor area to have some fun shooting natural light portraits.

Next Wednesday 20th May my "I'm Walking Anyway Wednesday" hike takes me to Tavy Cleave.

I've no expectations from these walks, as I've said before, I'm walking anyway 😍

It's £65 for a four or five hour wander out from Lane End carpark along the river and back across the top of the valley (depending on how we feel).

There's only three spots available.

Plenty of photo opportunities.
I'm probably going to jump in the river at some point to use my underwater camera housing (but this isn't a requirement of the walk!)

You're welcome to join me.

Not a technical workshop.

Bring any camera, or none.

Curious Photography welcome.
It's Dartmoor, so come prepared!

In between showing how to direct your model and explaining my philosophy of just giving it a go, I managed to grab a few images myself ... will edit some more when I have time and post over the next few days.'

It was really excellent to see people get creative with their photos and begin to look for natural framing effects. Huge thanks to Paul for sharing his knowledge such a gentle, accessible way.
