I discovered this album over the weekend and found myself inspired. Over the last year I let my officially diagnosed OCD brain go HAM digging for music. While I’m not in record stores as often as I used to be, I’ve spent many six hour clips digging on Spotify—and found 100x as much music in that same stretch.

Some of this would have wound up in Wax Poetics during my magazine days. Now I’m putting it in a playlist titled after the above album. This first installment is 11 hours and only covers last week. So, many of these songs are new to me or back in rotation after finally stumbling on them digitally. It’s a mixed bag but I go down wormholes. Updates will be a mix of new and older discoveries over the last year.

It’s also a reflection of the evolution of my tastes. My ears weren’t ready for some of these records 20 years ago. Others, I’ve loved even longer.

Andre founded the highly regarded quarterly music magazine Wax Poetics in 2001, featuring an eclectic mix of artists from Public Enemy to Daft Punk. The New York Times Style Magazine named the publication, “The best and most exquisitely laid-out music bimonthly in America.” There he grew the magazine into a global movement of vinyl collectors, DJs, and music enthusiasts interested in tracing hip-hop’s DNA back through its roots. In his role at Warner Music Group, he worked closely with frontline labels and artists to strategize new catalog opportunities in A&R, content development, consumption, and marketing. He joined WMG after serving as Head of Catalog, Artist and Label Partnerships at Spotify where he led all North American catalog initiatives.
