Last week was Mother's day, and with the help of some participants, (thank you guys for following through with the voicenotes!) we were able to do something a little different for the listeners throughout the show!
And a big shout out and thank you to my cousin Ona for helping me rally the mums to suprise the guys, mid show! Curating suprises like these are very much me-coded atp 😅
While we locked in the messages to play from the mums with such loving messages for their sons and words of wisdom to share with them and with us listeners, @mcbushkin and @djfonti journeyed through several stages of shock in the studio so I had to get their live reactions:

I pitched an idea for St Lucia's independence to @djfonti for the @heartlesscrew show on @bbc1xtra which nicely landed on the same date as Lucian 🇱🇨 independence day.
He passed it onto the producers @theplaymakergroup and on independence day self, our pioneer of the Dennery Segment sound, Producer @jammin758 gave us some backstory and history on the genre and following that, @rickytizle and @mightymusic_758 came and gave us a lil vibe and straight Patwa/Kwéyòl (Creole) - no English, on a freestyle and some of their songs giving us Soca and Dennery Segment energy throughout national airwaves the whole evening.
Even @richiebrave confessed that "Dennery Segment is the best music genre in the world" before he took over for his show... his words, not mine 👐🏽
The show was so sentimental and so lively and Mr Fontenelle (Fonti) ended the show with a generational Zouk fave by @kassav_official in honour of his dad, my Uncle.
To say that I'm SO proud of us both, would be an understatement.

And knowing that the whole thing reignited the warm St Lucian blood that has been laying dormant in Mr Fonti for so many years, that he even had to remind himself of his full surname live on air! 🤣🤣

A brainchild of mine got the greenlight on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
I pitched an idea for St Lucia's independence to @djfonti for the @heartlesscrew show on @bbc1xtra which nicely landed on the same date as Lucian 🇱🇨 independence day.
He passed it onto the producers @theplaymakergroup and on independence day self, our pioneer of the Dennery Segment sound, Producer @jammin758 gave us some backstory and history on the genre and following that, @rickytizle and @mightymusic_758 came and gave us a lil vibe and straight Patwa/Kwéyòl (Creole) - no English, on a freestyle and some of their songs giving us Soca and Dennery Segment energy throughout national airwaves the whole evening.
Even @richiebrave confessed that "Dennery Segment is the best music genre in the world" before he took over for his show... his words, not mine 👐🏽
The show was so sentimental and so lively and Mr Fontenelle (Fonti) ended the show with a generational Zouk fave by @kassav_official in honour of his dad, my Uncle.
To say that I'm SO proud of us both, would be an understatement.

And knowing that the whole thing reignited the warm St Lucian blood that has been laying dormant in Mr Fonti for so many years, that he even had to remind himself of his full surname live on air! 🤣🤣
