Composed of inter-referential short stories, snapshots, and memos, the book folds back on itself, each fragment refracting another. Through repeated translations of text and life, the boundaries between agency and surrender begin to blur. What lies after?

Siming, a transliteration of “Yasmine” back into Mandarin Chinese, appears across as an idol, an idol aspirant, a fledgling part-time girlfriend, and a defeated novelist in an unexpected chance encounter. Edging between danger and security, she approaches self-actualization as identity is performed, translated, and continually revised in fantasies.

𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 is a collection of short stories, notes, and snapshots drawn from Yasmine Anlan Huang’s travels and processes of relocation since 2019. Extending an autobiographical narrative and a recurring protagonist from her previous publications and films, this book shifts toward autofiction, reframing lived experience through a character who allows Huang to rehearse lives she cannot yet inhabit. Siming, a transliteration of “Yasmine” back into Mandarin Chinese, appears across as an idol, an idol aspirant, a fledgling part-time girlfriend, and a defeated novelist in an unexpected chance encounter. Edging between danger and security, she approaches self-actualization as identity is performed, translated, and continually revised in fantasies.

- How does poetry braid with trauma?
- What are the modes of being and writing that may respond to the bodies, languages, and the unspeakable and inaudible matters sedimenting through trauma?
𝙵𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚑 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙵𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚑 explores the practice of poetic writing with, within, from, and through trauma. The workshop also seeks the specificities of poetic writing within Sinophone bodies and lineages. During this afternoon gathering, seven poets will share their presence through discussion and silence. We will explore ways to attune to personal trajectories, affective undercurrents, embodied knowledge, and the skilful approaches that sustain the transmutation between fleshy holdings and poetic utterances.

📖 Conversation will be held in Mandarin, with English or any other language of comfort. We welcome poets, as well as writers using film, prose, fiction, and/or other media as their means of poetic writing.
