Content warning: Discussion of PTSD

As Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May) reminds us, mental health doesn’t just affect the person struggling. It affects the people who love them, too.

Chris’s husband, Gareth, served in the British Army for 35 years and became a leading bomb disposal expert.

Over time, Chris watched the impact of his deployments take hold. But when Gareth finally reached out to Help for Heroes, everything began to change.

If you’re struggling with your mental health, we can help you find the peace you deserve.

We’re ready, when you’re ready.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that small moments matter.
A coffee. A conversation. Feeling part of something.

That's why we’re launching three new Hero Cafés in partnership with the Tesco Armed Forces Network💚

📍The Café in Tesco Nottingham Hucknall Extra (19 May)
📍The Café in Tesco Wrexham Extra (20 May)
📍The Café in Tesco Springhill Superstore (2 June)
⏰ 10am–12pm

These will be taking place in The Cafés in Tesco. A welcoming space for veterans, serving personnel and their families to connect, chat, feel supported, and grab a free brew.

You're always welcome.

After being medically discharged from the Royal Navy in 2005 and diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Michelle says she “literally sat at home waiting for my body to stop working.”

Everything changed when Michelle visited a veterans’ hub. She found support from Help for Heroes. And then, swimming.

Taking to the water each week with Veterans’ Community Nurse, Claire, has made a massive difference to her life.

Operation Swim is back this June. Pick your distance, dive in and help change lives.

Read more about Michelle’s story and find out how to get involved with Operation Swim @helpforheroes link in bio. 🔗

Content warning: Discussion of PTSD

During Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May), we’re acknowledging the quieter, slower ways trauma can take hold.

For Gareth, PTSD didn’t arrive in a single moment. It gathered over the years. From the things he witnessed in service, the emotions he pushed down, and the weight he believed he had to carry alone.

When he reached out to Hidden Wounds, he found people who understood what service can leave behind.

If PTSD or other mental health challenges are shaping your life, you don’t have to face them by yourself.

You deserve peace, and support is here.

Content warning: Discussion of PTSD

11 – 17 May is Mental Health Awareness Week. Gareth’s story reminds us why these conversations matter.

“I wasn't a failure, I wasn't someone who couldn't cope with stress, I just coped with a lot of it, and it had literally broken me.”

For 35 years, Gareth carried his trauma like a suitcase.

When it became too heavy, he finally reached out to Hidden Wounds, our mental health therapy service.

If you’ve been carrying more than you should, we can help.

Today on International Nurses Day, we recognise the vital role military nurses play in supporting our Armed Forces. 💙

From the Crimean War to today’s deployments and recovery centres, their work has always been essential. They operate in high-pressure environments, delivering expert care when it matters most.

They’re not just skilled clinicians; they provide reassurance, stability, and respect in some of the toughest situations.

At Help for Heroes, we see the long-term impact of that care, supporting veterans as they recover and rebuild their lives.

We’d like to hear from you 💬
Have you or someone you know been treated by a military nurse? What did that experience mean to you?

“I think what you see in life stays with you; it's not something that you can forget.”

Gareth’s story isn’t unique. Thousands of veterans are still fighting their own battles. We’re here to change that.

We’re incredibly proud of Sue Warner, a Belfast-based veteran and former Royal Navy nurse, and one of our inspiring ambassadors, who continues to show what strength, resilience, and community can achieve.

After sustaining life-changing injuries in Afghanistan, Sue faced a long road through physical recovery, PTSD and depression. But through determination and the power of sport, she rebuilt her confidence, went on to win medals at the Invictus Games, and found a renewed sense of purpose.

This August, she’ll take on the Superhero Tri at Dorney Lake and will be honoured with a prestigious Golden Cape for her achievements and ongoing support for others 💫

“I’m nervous… but I’m determined to cross the finish line on my own two feet.”

Sue, we’re with you every step of the way 💙

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
