: A Life in Ink and Brush,
Do-hyun Gil
Meet Dohyun Gil, a calligrapher who has spent a lifetime immersed in ink, brush, and the beauty of written characters.
Based in Insadong, he has dedicated himself to the art of Chinese calligraphy and Oriental painting, a journey that began in his childhood and continues to this day.
Now, he devotes his time to teaching and guiding the next generation, sharing the depth and elegance of calligraphy through his classes and artistic endeavors. In the strokes of his students, he finds joy; in their efforts and achievements, he discovers a shared sense of fulfillment.
For him, ink, hanji (traditional Korean paper), brushes, and are more than just tools—they are lifelong companions that have brought him happiness. As the saying goes, “Life is short, but art is eternal.”
With this in mind, his greatest wish is simple: to continue writing, creating, and finding happiness in every brushstroke, every single day.
