In 2018, I gained a grandfather. Clayton Privett, also known as Papaw, has become a dear grandfather to me over the past six years. We placed an order for a dust storm. 🎥
In the span of 3 days, we had to capture 3 different commercial spots I pitched. One of the spots: man struggling in a dust storm. The goal was to capture the struggle through a thick cloud of dust and wind. We found a perfect spot for the scene on top of Pikes Peak, we were just missing a small detail – the dust. DP @chrisverner and I put our heads together to create some dust out of nothing. Sand from Home Depot? Blowers? Flour? Add it in post? Nah. We used our resources – the genius of @bellakbarnett suggested cocoa powder + blowers. The crew made a quick trip to grab 5 pounds of cocoa powder + a few blowers, and the scene came to life. Nothing like an amazing crew to take the scene from mood boards to reality.
Shout out to all the real ones who covered themselves in cocoa to make it happen.

Hey, hi, hello.
Most of you know me as Shane John—which is true—but I also run a video production company called Johnré. It’s a little play on words for “genre,” because I tend to work across a lot of them. And honestly, that’s the beautiful part of this craft.
One day I might be filming the President of the United States, and the next job could be a product shoot for… new toilets. That’s the range.

I will never forget His presence there as this little miracle took his first breath, opened his eyes, and let out a few cries — only to find out later from the doctor that “he shouldn’t have” based on the circumstances. Aren’t you glad we get to live from His goodness, and not just circumstances.
