Real progress for the veteran community happens when organizations, caregivers, advocates, and leaders come together with a shared mission.

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) was proud to attend the Elizabeth Dole Foundation National Convening alongside changemakers from across the veteran and military-connected community. The convening created an important space to exchange ideas, share resources, and strengthen partnerships focused on improving outcomes for veterans and their families.

Conversations like these reinforce the importance of collaboration and information-sharing in building a stronger, more connected veteran community. Just as importantly, they highlight the critical role veteran caregivers play every day, often serving as advocates, providers, and support systems for those who served.

At IAVA, we believe supporting veterans means supporting the people who stand beside them as well. Creating an inclusive veteran community requires recognizing caregivers as an essential part of that mission.

Thank you to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation for bringing together voices dedicated to making a lasting impact for veterans, caregivers, and military families nationwide.

Much of the work in Congress happens long before a bill ever reaches the House or Senate floor for a final vote.

Congressional committees and subcommittees are where legislation is introduced, reviewed, debated, amended, and prioritized before advancing through the legislative process. These bodies hold hearings, conduct oversight, gather expert testimony, and shape many of the policies that ultimately become law.

Understanding the difference between committees and subcommittees helps explain how Congress organizes its work, divides policy responsibilities, and determines which issues receive attention and legislative action. In many ways, some of the most important decisions in Congress happen at the committee and subcommittee level.

Yesterday morning, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) proudly hosted IAVA Salutes 2026 in Washington, D.C. The event brought together veteran advocates, policymakers, and supporters for a breakfast reception and an engaging fireside conversation focused on the evolving needs of today’s veterans and military families.

We were honored to recognize Representatives Don Bacon and Nikki Budzinski as recipients of the 2026 IAVA Leadership in Government Award for their bipartisan leadership and commitment to improving the lives of service members, veterans, and their families. Representative Bacon was recognized for his work as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee’s Military Quality-of-Life Panel, helping drive meaningful reforms addressing military pay, housing, healthcare, childcare, and spouse employment through the FY2025 NDAA. Representative Budzinski was honored for her leadership on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and her work advancing legislation aimed at improving veterans’ access to care, benefits, and modernized systems for the post-9/11 generation.

The conversation reinforced the importance of bipartisan collaboration in addressing the challenges facing veterans and military families today. IAVA remains committed to ensuring the voices of the post-9/11 generation continue to be heard on Capitol Hill and beyond. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make IAVA Salutes 2026 a meaningful and impactful event.

Through storytelling and preservation, veterans continue to educate and inspire future generations long after their service ends.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Director of Membership, Jerritt Lynn, recently sat down at the Library of Congress with IAVA Cavalry member Jonathan H. Tennis for an interview as part of the Veterans History Project (VHP).

The Veterans History Project, housed within the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, is dedicated to collecting and preserving the firsthand stories of veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces from World War I through today. Through oral histories, photographs, letters, journals, memoirs, and artwork, VHP ensures these experiences are documented and accessible for future generations.

We are proud to see members of the IAVA community contributing to this important national archive and helping preserve the voices, sacrifices, and stories of those who served.

Today, on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) recognizes the strength, sacrifice, and resilience of military spouses across the country.

Military spouses are often the steady force behind service members and veterans through deployments, PCS moves, transitions, and the challenges of military life. They are leaders in their homes, workplaces, and communities, yet despite their talent and experience, many continue to face barriers to stable employment because of frequent relocations and licensing challenges across state lines. Military spouses deserve more than appreciation, they deserve opportunity.

That’s why IAVA supports the Military Spouse Hiring Act (H.R. 2033 & S. 1027). This bipartisan legislation would expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit to include military spouses, giving employers a meaningful incentive to hire and retain them while helping connect a highly capable workforce with real opportunity.

Join us in supporting policies that strengthen military families and help remove barriers to employment — https://iavaaction.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/supportmilitaryspouses

Congressional language can sound interchangeable — but in legislation, words matter.

“Bipartisan” and “bicameral” are often used in the same conversation, yet they describe two very different types of support for a bill. Understanding the distinction helps explain how legislation gains momentum, builds support, and moves through Congress.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Cavalry members are not simply veterans, they’re advocates, entrepreneurs, and community leaders shaping how we think about mental health and resilience.

Alan Torres, an IAVA Cavalry member recently featured in Stars and Stripes Health and Fitness Guide, is a powerful example of the knowledge and leadership within our community.

In his feature, Torres highlights a critical truth: yoga isn’t just stretching, it’s a tool for readiness, recovery, and resilience. From improving sleep and heart health to sharpening awareness and strengthening emotional regulation, practices like yoga and mindfulness are proving to be essential when it comes to long-term well-being.

For veterans, these benefits carry even greater weight. Managing stress, maintaining physical readiness, and building mental resilience. Tools like yoga help create the foundation to meet those demands, both during and after service.

Across the country, IAVA Cavalry members are leading the way bringing lived experience, credible insight, and practical solutions to the forefront of veteran health and wellness.

What happens when Congress doesn’t hold a hearing on an issue?

Sometimes, members organize what’s known as a shadow hearing—an unofficial forum designed to examine issues that aren’t being addressed through the formal committee process. While they look like traditional hearings, they operate outside official congressional authority.

Sometimes, members organize what’s known as a shadow hearing—an unofficial forum designed to examine issues that aren’t being addressed through the formal committee process. While they look like traditional hearings, they operate outside official congressional authority.

This past week Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Director of Membership Jerritt Lynn traveled with IAVA CEO Dr. Kyleanne Hunter to support the inclusion of IAVA and local veterans at the screenings of American Solitaire and follow-on Q&A sessions. The film screening created an opportunity for veterans and non-veterans to discuss topics of community, military reintegration, suicide, firearms, and several more sensitive subjects. Having the opportunity to engage actors, directors, and veterans was well received and appreciated by the community and audiences. This experience has made it apparent that honest conversations are the only real way forward for veterans and their communities.

“The trip was a reminder of what drove me as a leader and helped stoke the internal fire. It felt like a battlefield circulation—engaging with our organization's outstanding members and leaders in NYC and LA. Breaking bread with them and discussing the great work they have been doing led to talks about how the IAVA can scale and support moving forward.”

The interactions through the week were a great reminder that veterans are never done serving and that some principles of leadership hold true. Purpose, direction, and motivation towards achieving an object in accomplishment of the mission.

You don't need a handout, you deserve a purpose.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
