“Denied.” A letter I rcvd exactly 11 years ago today, - we found this letter accidentally today while looking for her birth certificate. Almost like God wanted me to be reminded of how far we’ve come. A word that once broke me as a mother… became the reason I built Dolce Glow. I saved this denial letter because I knew one day I would look back. I found this letter today while looking for Mia’s birth certificate. How would I pick up this letter on the exact date it was denied 11 years ago today. 😭

In 2015, I was a new mom just trying to figure it all out. Mia was allergic to protein and soy, had blood in her stool, and needed a medically prescribed formula that our insurance kept denying. Each can was around $50–$70, and she needed a minimum of 4 a week… sometimes 12–15 cans a month. Over $1,000 a month just to feed my baby money I simply did not have at the time. I remember crying on the phone begging the insurance company to please approve this medical request that I could only get with a prescription.

We were so, so poor. I remember barely being able to afford even $20 a week for groceries. We would save cash in a sock just to try and make it through the week. I remember searching Craigslist, praying someone had extra cans of formula just so I could feed my daughter.

What I didn’t realize then was that those denials were pushing me toward something bigger. Out of pure survival mode, I started spray tanning so I could afford Mia’s formula. Late nights, house calls, nonstop hustle… all so I could take care of my daughter.

Little did I know that business would one day become Dolce Glow — a brand named after her, Mia Dolce Vita. 🤍

And the craziest part? The formula she needed had “DHA” in the name… the same abbreviation that would later become the hero ingredient behind the business that changed our lives.

Looking back now, I’m grateful for every closed door, every struggle, every moment that felt impossible. Because sometimes the hardest seasons are the ones quietly building your future. ✨
