Somatic Resonance is a collaborative project combining group reiki facilitated by Nanse Kawashima with music by Bryce Hackford.

All materials have their resonant frequencies. Bryce Hackford intuitively tunes to the resonant frequencies of human body in meditated performance and observation. These tones generally center lower thresholds of human hearing and can be psychoactive. A viscous music, not unlike cuddling up to a giant cat; you are the glass of water on the dashboard.

Reiki is a well-known form of energy healing with origins in Japan, where it was founded by Mikao Usui in 1922. As a Reiki practitioner, Nanse Kawashima works with universal life force energy while engaging with clients, employing a gentle, light touch of the hands on various energy centers throughout the body. Results can vary significantly; clients often report experiencing a sense of groundedness, inner peace and comforting feeling of coming home to their true self; senses of realignment, recentering and expansiveness. This therapeutic practice is considered beneficial for various imbalances and discomforts in body, mind and spirit.

Kawashima and Hackford view their respective practices as complementary, synergistically blending sound and energy vibrations. When the two resonances merge, they foster a unique sensorial experience, allowing people to drift into relaxation or deepen their bodily awareness.

Bryce Hackford will play field rubbings; processed field recordings where the source is in most instances fully removed, leaving only triggered spectral traces to be heard.

Minor Characters play a muscle memory music. Three friends with shared collective history in the subterranean spirit, they amassed in 2022 to play consistent gigs in the Hudson Valley, where all 3 members arebased. In other realms;Tony Cenicola is the drummer of scuzz trippers Tono Bungay,andslammed with Glenn Branca. Carter Thorton gleam’d on guitar with Enos Slaughter, Izititis, and GNAW, and Matt Mottel co founded the confusion unit Talibam!

For those who've been following this year, you've probably noticed my sharing a new collaborative project called Somatic Resonance, where my lower compositions enhance @nansekawashima reiki for a small group.

We have been very happy with the positive feedback and support for this project. Thank you for your part. I present a recording for you today towards your own rituals, a remote point of access.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28 2026, the doors to @lightandsounddesign open at 7:30pm, with our last session of Somatic Resonance of the season at this venue following at 8pm.

I am finding the need to process a lot of grief this season. I have found the experience of playing this music while people receive reiki to be very grounding, settling my spirit and allowing my mind to rest and have the strength to do that.

9/9: the next iteration of Somatic Resonance, a collaboration with @nansekawashima combining reiki in a group setting with music.

It's been exciting to explore music making in the context of a healing practice. In some ways, healing has always been an important, if indirect, aspect of my personal musical exploration. The music here aims mostly for bodies, and the place where they meet their ears.

This venue is one of the best homes we've found for this current formation of Somatic Resonance. The powerful subwoofer and system allow for very dynamic music; the feeling in this room is very particular and away.

Reservations are limited to 20 people for the experience, which can be made upstairs. We will only offer this once more here this year. Please bring a mat, blanket, pillow or whatever will make you comfortable lying on the floor. Supplies at the venue are limited and cannot be guaranteed.
