We’ve been saying goodbye to Gma in different ways over the past decade due to Alzheimer’s, but this week we said goodbye for good. When I had no place to live, she opened her home to me. We’d go on sailing adventures to Catalina. She loved laughing and wasn’t afraid to use crude humor to get a good laugh. Love you and miss you tons Gma ❤️

Avila labored in our apartment for about 5 hours, when our midwife encouraged us to go to the hospital, which is about 5-7 minutes away from us. Halfway through the drive, we were at Sunset Blvd and Hillhurst, and Avila yelled “he’s coming right now.” So I pulled some questionable maneuvers and pulled over on Hillhurst. I ran around the car, opened the door, and saw his head sticking out. Avila pushed and he slid right into my arms.
I never imagined I’d be the one to catch my child. I definitely never imagined he would be born in my car in the middle of Los Feliz 😳

She passed away last week after having a stroke and the finality of her passing feels heavy, but also relieving. After 7 long and painful years, she’s free from the pain and heartache she endured.
