LIC Arts Open 13 was pretty epic. In general, I’m a little shy to stroll into peoples’ spaces and poke around, but mercifully there were so many people attending that I could get a good snoop on. I’ve been to open studio events before, but I was blown away by this Queens version. There were so many buildings with so many studios, and so many adjacent popup shows.
Just some of the highlights from the studios and galleries:
The epic pinball tapestry of “You are the other me” @jessicadramirez
The skillful self portraits of @philpadwe “Memento mori”
“Some Bullshit” @lisadiclerico
The enormous playfulness of Sarah Chapman’s “Megacorns”
“Second spring” @jesslevey.art
The charming Monster portraits of Davey Sandy
The many vibrant faces of @eric_hagan_art
I had an ICE drawing in the “Soul of Form” exhibit at the Factory curated by Jorge Posada and Joshua Rosenblat, an author portrait of Valeria Luisselli (who wrote a gorgeous novel Lost Children Archive) in the “Life in Culture” curated by Yvette Hidalgo, and 2 author portraits in “Upstanders” curated by Karen Dimit (Karen Bakker’s book the Sounds of Life and Zoe Schlanger’s book The Light Eaters are two of the most exciting pop-science books I’ve read).
I am so very grateful to these curators for the time and work it takes to put these shows together. And also to the organizers of such an overflowing art weekend—looking at you, Norma! @norma_homberg

Tonight, Thursday, April 23, is LICA’s fundraiser party at the New York Irish Center. There will be choral bangers, Queens Poet Laureates, music, Irish jigs, raffles, and even a silent auction where you can bid on my latest masterpiece, “Lady Wipplebottom”
The good Lady is a weapons officer in video game that Jordan and I are making—you can see an animation that AI helped me make of her sipping tea—if we want to get all catty about who wore it better.

New drawing and a new t-shirt!
I’ve been thinking about Edvard Munch’s “Scream.” I had the chance to see it in person on that layover in Oslo last year. For my taste in painting, it’s a bit simple, but it’s a showstopper for sure—was hailed as a masterpiece of modernity’s existential dread—a “Mona Lisa for our time.”
It sounds like the work was born of a panic attack he had as he was walking along a boardwalk at sunset in Oslo (then Kristiania). “I stood there trembling with anxiety – and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.”
And I’m thinking about the videos and accounts of ICE terrorism, where we’re hearing so many literal screams. And I keep returning to the phrase, “an infinite scream passing through nature”, as I wonder what this violence is doing to us—what thousands of screams do to a society bearing witness to its own deep and violent ugliness.
Not that I’ve made some postmodern Mona Lisa here, but I’m definitely working through some existential dread and demons (albeit Proud Boy incel Trump militia puke demons)

Want to test play my new video game? Wanna name it?
I haven’t talked about this project yet. Jordan and I have been building a video game based on a Commodore 64 game he loved back in 1984. We’re now 3 seasons into our Summer Fun Project, and it’s ready to play! I mean, we’re still working out the kinks, that’s where you come in. If you want to play, hit me up—we’ll set up a zoom call—it’ll take a half hour to play and chat.
It’s been a fun process. Definitely educational in terms of what AI can and can’t help with. You can see how some of the paintings that I made were used to build some of the characters. There’s a death doula that cries about his mom, a jellyfish that quotes the Art of War, a dancing lemon, and stay tuned for new characters like a minotaur named Keamoo, a Snail enthusiast named Chet, and Santa Claus!!

I have a couple of paintings in a group show at Atlantic Gallery (Chelsea) tonight (6-8p).
I will also be at the ICE OUT march tomorrow (Friday 4p)
Also a latergram of my quick visit to Mexico City last weekend. As an American, I feel a deep shame that I was greeted with such warmth by such a beautiful city when my own country has gone full nazi-klan on foreigners. As someone raised in Minnesota, I am up to my back teeth with venomous molten rage about what is happening in the Twin Cities. The extrajudicial killing of a US citizen, the dragging of half-clothed people into sub-freezing weather, and the kidnapping a 5 year old are just the most visible of the atrocities. A friend’s husband who works in an ER in MN has treated several teenagers who’ve been beaten by ICE. These lawless, racist Proud Boy incel clowns are domestic terrorists.
The only masks I want to see more of in this country are LUCHA LIBRE!!

The NYC edition of the national Say No to Trump Goon Squad’s Extrajudicial Killings march.
Never saw the beginning or end of this march—was pretty huge.

I Voted. I’m hopeful. Then I painted a little.
Zohran is energetic and charismatic and genuinely seems to want to make changes for the low income majority. I truly hope a decisive win will force a Dem leadership reckoning. It’s appalling that DNC do-nothings like Schumer, Jeffries, Obama, Etc will whine all day long about “saving democracy” but can’t seem to muster a modicum of support for the democratically elected candidate for Democrat mayor of NYC.
It was a bummer not to have anyone to vote for for comptroller— all 3 candidates insisted that genocide bonds “have a decent ROI so there’s no reason to “play politics” with peoples’ pensions.”
It’s probably a bit late at this point for my ballot proposal hot takes so I’ll spare you. 😂
Friends, I hope you’ve been well—Instagram doesnt show me much of what you’re all up to so I haven’t been around the gram much the last few months, But I hope we’re all celebrating later tonight!

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
