Kairo Urovi
shkoder & essex

It's been a few months now but last November I started my position as photography lecturer, teaching part-time at South Essex University in Southend. 🏹
Every day I am reminded of my family lineage: three of my grandparents taught across Shkoder and northern Albania.
My grandma, at times, found herself with a classroom of 60 students.
I was raised knowing that merely finishing my homework wasn't enough; that there was strength in discipline. I still vividly recall making bookmarks out of kitchen paper & cardboard in the summer, but the most tender of memories is of my grandad spilling coffee all over my Maths workbook; how upset both him and I were, how it felt like the end of the world had come right there and then.
15 years later, I wish he was here to spill coffee all over my lesson plans.
Here's to a good 2026, I'm still freelancing & available for commissions ❤️

Last December I was commissioned by @photoworks_uk as part of Jerwood/Photoworks Awards to write a teaching resource in response to Roman Manfredi (@butchfemmelove)’s new work ‘TRA’.
This teaching resource is a starting point that encourages educators to explore how photography can hold stories of transness, queerness, class and belonging.
Roman’s portraits are tender and defiant. The sitters see straight through me and I, them. I can feel Napoli’s warmth, the streets buzzing with life. I was so drawn to the landscapes in this work - kitchens and bedrooms as containers of worlds, midnight secrets, morning tenderness.
Thank you @juliettebuss for this match made in heaven and for the trust in my writing.
The Jerwood/Photoworks Award exhibition is now open at @drawingroomlondon showcasing both Roman’s work and the brilliant Sayuri Ichida (@the_final_view). ❤️
You can check my writing out in link in bio.

On Thursday evening (18:30-20:00) Please join us for the launch event of the Paperback edition of Åsa Johannesson’s book Queer Methodology for Photography, published by Routledge, in the Cafe Bar and Bookshop.
With her book Queer Methodology for Photography the artist and writer Åsa Johannesson explores new approaches to making, thinking, and writing about queer photography. This book centres around 27 photographs produced by LGBTQ+ artists and presents different conceptual perspectives on queer photography, including representation, poetic writing, and formalism. In contrast to most existing literature on queer photography, this book focuses on artistic strategies to image making. The reader is invited on a journey that is both photographic and queer, amongst pixels and grains, double exposures, 3D sculpture, and Polaroid emulsions.
On the night, Åsa Johannesson will be in conversation with the artist Kairo Urovi, and TPG Curator José Neves, followed by a book signing.

A Space For Us (Fri 21st Nov - Sun 23rd Nov) 🥀
@the_koppel_project. So happy with how this show turned out. ❤️
‘A Space for Us is a book and exhibition fundraiser by photographers Kairo Urovi and Vela.
This body of work invites you to hold, care for and gather around interwoven narratives from the book that in binding, form a collective voice..A Space For Us becomes both a site of connection and a lens of observation - an amalgamation of interactive works, poetry and photographic portraits that traverse continents and experience.
The work moves between Western and Southern perspectives - from Kenya to the UK - tracing how the labour and lives of individuals shift across demographics, crossing both political and physical borders. In the UK, trans lives are discriminated against, debated in Parliament and systematically erased from public spaces. In Kenya, visibility is criminalised and survival depends on underground networks of care.
At the core of these dialogues lies a meditation on presence - on how archives work to celebrate, safeguard and preserve our stories. In this light, photography emerges as an act of activism - an assertion rather than petition of visibility. They gather us in. They hold space. Within these works, visibility becomes an act of solidarity rather than exposure, a celebration rather than a risk.
With care and loving rage, we hold A Space for Us.’

Look forward to seeing you there ✨
I want trans people to live. I, myself, want to live..and laugh and be able to breathe a little. In 2 days time I’m raising another altar in awe of all the trans masculine and gender non-conforming folk I’ve met while shooting ‘A Space For Us’ with @maschartnbo.
We will be raising money for @trans_empowerment_initiative, showing new work and releasing another publication.
Join me at @the_koppel_project this Saturday 22nd November 5pm-8pm. I’ll also be in the space every day, so feel free to pop in from 10am onwards. 🫂❤️

A SPACE FOR US at @the_koppel_project with @maschartnbo
Friday 21st November - Sunday 23rd November
Under a backdrop where trans lives are politicised, debated, and blamed for a country’s shifting moral compass, A Space For Us emerges as an act of resistance. After a sold-out book released early this year, the works will be reimagined and presented again at @the_koppel_project.
Curated by @kymaraakinpelumi 💚
Join us for the show celebration on Saturday 22nd November 5-8PM
Project manager: @pokimani
Supported by @britishcouncil and @the_koppel_project
The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles.
