A beautiful backstage moment with the ever-charming Kanwaljit Singh ji. I started singing his iconic song "Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuk Si Ladki", and without missing a beat, he hilariously countered: "Magar tum to sanwli nahi ho!" 🤦‍♂️🤣
​Once we stopped laughing, the conversation took a fascinating turn. He pointed out his long-standing grievance with the track's writing: "Why did the lyricist write 'magar' (but) sanwli si? If a girl is beautiful, why the 'but'?"
​Honestly, he dropped some absolute facts! Why should a beautiful complexion ever need a qualifier? A fun, candid, and thought-provoking moment with a true gentleman.

Veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh has officially joined the cast of The Family I Chose, the upcoming independent feature written, directed, and self-financed by filmmaker Kankana Chakraborty. The film, which also stars two-time National Award-winning actor Sarika, will go on floors in Gangtok from November 12. Marking the first-ever on-screen pairing of Kanwaljit Singh and Sarika, the film explores themes of chosen family, grief, redemption, and emotional belonging, with Gangtok serving not merely as a backdrop but as an emotional landscape shaping the narrative. The project also introduces young Sikkimese talents Aaradhya Rai (11) and Adlin Rai (7).

Kanwaljit Singh says, “Before having read the script, the first thing that made me want to meet Kankana and listen to the plot was the fact that she knew so much about me and genuinely saw me in the character Arun. Secondly, I found the script intriguing and sensitively presented. Thirdly, when I met her in person, her quiet passion and enthusiasm were touching and rubbed off on me. Thank you, dear Director, for having me on board.”

Sarika says, “The concept resonates with the times we live in, especially in metro cities, hence the film offers the opportunity to look around and pick up nuances. 'The family I chose' is not just the title and the subject of the film, but a reality of our times that needs to be explored creatively. I love Kankana's vision as a director and how she has written it. Full of emotions, emotional interactions that are real and not contrived- a perfect stage set for actors to get invested comfortably. Kankana's approach and understanding make me believe that hopefully we will make a film the audience takes home with them, beyond the viewing.”

Speaking about working with both actors, Kankana Chakraborty shared, “Very quickly, it stopped feeling like veteran actors joining a project — it started feeling like family coming together to tell a story.”
